Flamecaster question

I am about 400 pages into this book and already two characters have expressed love for one another. While I admittedly feel this came very quickly, time is relative in books and it may not be or might be attributed to being under stressed circumstances in bringing them closer together. In any case, I was wondering how others felt about this coupling of the series so far.
