These may or may not align with the intention of this group, but it is a small selection of the books that were less technical in my professional reading pile.
Design for Real Life
Designing for Sustainability: A Guide to Building Greener Digital Products and Services
Transform: A Rebel's Guide for Digital Transformation
(Available to read online: https://medium.com/@gerrymcgovern/opt...)
Mad at School: Rhetorics of Mental Disability and Academic Life
The Fuzzy and the Techie: Why the Liberal Arts Will Rule the Digital World
Born Digital: How Children Grow Up in a Digital Age
The Inmates Are Running the Asylum: Why High Tech Products Drive Us Crazy and How to Restore the Sanity
Glut: Mastering Information through the Ages
Managing Chaos: Digital Governance by Design
Ah, a couple more I just recalled the titles of:
Programmed Inequality: How Britain Discarded Women Technologists and Lost Its Edge in Computing
Neuro Web Design: What Makes Them Click?
(Perhaps this one is too web-oriented, love bringing psychology in though)
Not to belabor the point, but here are a few more that may be more relevant:
Writing on the Wall: Social Media - The First 2,000 Years
The Pinball Effect: How Renaissance Water Gardens Made The Carburetor Possible - and Other Journeys Through Knowledge
Connections
The Victorian Internet
Amy's suggestions sound awesome - I would read any of those!I'd be interested in this upcoming title:
The Lita Guide to No- Or Low-Cost Technology Tools for Libraries
Hi Everyone :) I was recruited by Eric. How to Turn Down A Billion Dollars
The Snapchat Story by Billy Gallagher
https://greenwichlibrary.bibliocommon...
I'll let everyone chime in but I was thinking we could discuss a book once every two to three months? If you want we can get a poll up so we can start voting on what to read next. I have no real problem reading anything on this list.
Confident Data Skills: Master the Fundamentals of Working with Data and Supercharge Your Career
Everybody Lies: Big Data, New Data, and What the Internet Can Tell Us About Who We Really Are
Weapons of Math Destruction: How Big Data Increases Inequality and Threatens Democracy
The Information: A History, a Theory, a Flood
Rise of the Robots: Technology and the Threat of a Jobless Future
The Industries of the Future
I'll go ahead and ask. Is everyone done with the Fuzzy and the Techie? Are we ready to move on to another title?P.S. Currently reading the Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O., and it's a good example of techies and fuzzies coming together. ;-)
I am ready! Hey Amy, Nina and I were thinking about suggesting a book that was a little more result oriented type. For instance, a book that may give us an idea that would end up being a real world project. Would that be ok? I know that they type of projects that we would work on aren't exactly the same.
