Actually, that's at the Dartmouth North branch. My bus stops there at the small terminal daily. They've been doing construction and renovations already so that must be what it's heading towards. It's a nice little community library.

I loved the overdue book donation!
Susan, I have a secret fantasy of running a mobile library when I retire...but since I don't like driving, I was thinking something like this:http://www.pbs.org/pov/biblioburro/

hahaha, I hope you live somewhere warm! I love the idea of putting books in people's hands too. I have a fantasy of having a little bookstore that only sells Canlit.
Me too @Kim... a CanLit bookstore with a resident cat!
@Storyheart - lol - i would travel to see that!

Yup, a cat or two is a must. I loved The Double Hook bookstore in Montreal, but sadly it closed well over 10 years ago.
I am in Calgary but I live in the NW so I will have to make a trip downtown. Aside from it being a remarkable building they made great use of an awkward piece of land downtown. Really something all around.
My mom is in the NW too but I will try to coax her to cross the river and come see it with me next time I'm there for a visit. I hear that area has a lot of development going on.
Yeah, there were big line-ups opening day. They have had great things planned though. Yes, there is lots of redevelopment in the East Village. I am an environmental scientist so I end up reviewing some of the proposed developments to make sure they are safe for human health. People have been living by the river and using that land for many purposes over the years so there is some due diligence required there. It is great to see the neat projects in the community.
Wow! I'm so happy to see such marvelous things happening in Calgary. I'm a Univ. of Calgary alum and have wonderful, warm feelings toward the city and University.
Every new library is a good thing. I'm excited to see this one on my next drive into Calgary -- which may be some time, as the snow just arrived here in Invermere, B.C. We are three hours away from Calgary, driving through both Kootenay National Park and Banff National Park. On the plus side, Parks Canada does a great job of keeping the highways clear.
I was in the Halifax airport this past summer and the Halifax public library has a vending machine where citizens can borrow books from. I so badly wanted to use it but of course I don't live there so...There was talk of putting library vending machines on the subways
in Toronto but I don't know what came of that.
Ottawa is getting ready to also build a new public library-I'm not
sure any designs are out yet.
I work for a university and many of the small libraries have started what they call "novelty" collections. These are almost always mass market paperbacks-mysteries and stuff like that-alternatives to theusual stuff you would find in a university library collection. They
are very popular and intended to be a distraction for students who
have their other reading to do.
The main library now lends out board games, kind of strange because the current generation live on their lap tops and you would think there are plenty of games there....
Plus during exam period one library brings in petting dogs to
help students with stress. From the pictures the dogs look beautiful.

Love the idea of outside space at the Halifax library!
