Very good movie.
Despite all the hype, it is very much a marvel movie. They did not feel the need to re-invent the wheel just because it was the black guy.
Instead they gave him the first of three origin movie that all the other marvel heroes have had.

Really solid cast and they played with some really interesting themes. Almost wish they had trimmed a few action scenes to give them a little more space to breathe.

and where can I get one of those amazon bodyguards...?

Nice review Travis - I agree with you. I'll add that I liked T'Challa in Civil War and I like him more now... really cool character that holds his own in an increasingly populated universe - if that makes sense

Lisa (lisadannatt) | 65 comments So I realize that everyone else is out there trying to get tickets for Endgame, but I have fallen far far behind and after the disappointment of Ragnarok, I stopped watching Avengers for a bit and haven't even seen Infinity War yet.

Black Panther was fantastic. I need to say here that as a kid, I did not have access to Black Panther comics. Pretty sure that they would have been banned under Apartheid in South Africa or else sanctions would have prevented access. So I did not have any preconceived ideas when I watched this.

I loved the cinematography- beautiful African vistas. Wakanda is a thriving African country free from Colonial influence and was fantastically portrayed with such detail to traditions, symbolism, different tribes with their own customs and vibrant costumes.

My favorite part though was the portrayal of strong women. I struggle with the fact that female comic heroes are often highly sexualised or serve merely as a romantic ploy. I feel that our daughters deserve better role models. Black Panther gives us Shuri, Nakia, Okoye and her Dora Milaje among others. Some thoughts on 2 characters

Shuri is tech savvy and no sassy and the first highly intelligent female heroe that I have seen in Avengers, I bet that she could give Stark or Banner a run for their money.

Nakia is strong, smart and a hero in her own right. I was watching Black Panther with my 4 year old who asked if Nakia is 'also a Wonder Woman'. Whilst there are hints of a romance, its down played and certainly not Nakia's sole function in the story.

My last comment is regarding Sebastian Klauw, an arms dealer from South Africa. He sounded so distinctly South African yet I did not recognize him as a local actor. To my surprise, its Andy Serkis who played Gollum. I have never heard a South African accent so well portrayed in an international film.
