Is this thing on?

Listens for the rustle of bodies, the exhalation of breath...

Is there anyone out there?

Do we have nothing to say about the state of the Black Queer Experience here in 2018? No good books to chew over? No thought-provoking articles or essays for us to delve into? Fears or hopes to share amongst us?

Are discussion boards so yesterday then? Is there anybody out there?

The last interesting black gay book I read was Solae Dehvine's Down Low Thuggin. It was believably dramatic. A bit predictable, but I enjoyed the characters. It's a quick read. I read it in between books last year.

I'm currently writing a novel about a gay black man's first time in lockup and he's haunted by a demonic presence in the prison system, that has manifested itself into an inmate of the jail, as a ghost, in his cell. It sound nuts, but I'm having a great time putting it together. It's my first attempt at writing a novel. Playing with many ideas this year. That one being the latest.

I Wanted to shout out to you and let you know I'm listening. The state of the Black Queer Experience is completely in our hands to mold into the future we want the world to see. The parts of us that we want to be remembered for. And sometimes, the shame most of us endured along the way to loving freely. And there's still a long way to go and so much to discuss. I hope to shed light on our world - on our community, through my stories. Through the predicaments I put my characters in and the ways I chose to get them out of those troubles.

I'm new to the game of the Black Gay Writer's scene and looking to connect with other writers, readers, editors ... teachers. Holla back and let me know what U readin’. And what you think about the state of the black literary world?

Be well
