Jacob Marshall Witchowski (forgive his last name, it's not like he picked it), the epitome of all things good, standing at her front door and grinning like he just won the lottery. And, as he informed her two minutes later after a rather stuttering introduction on my part, he had. Well, there went her dream of him professing his undying love; at least she wouldn't have to have that last name.
Jacob was the most popular boy in the middle school. Everyone knew him and all the girls had a crush on him. Caroline knew she never had a chance with him.
No, she would never become a Mrs. Jacob Witchowski; she was too plain, too ugly, too simple. But, she thought with increasing happiness, why would he even come to my house with that good- but rather strange- news if he didn't like me at all?
Caroline walked into the living room and invited him to join her. She had no idea what else he had in store for her.
Jacob shrugged and walked in after her, looking around as he did. Caroline debated if she should bring him to some place private, but decided against it.
She had nothing to hide from her family but it was a good thing that they weren't around at the moment. She wanted some time alone with Jacob.
Caroline sat down on the couch and motioned to the spot next to her for him to sit down. He did so and looked at her expectantly.
Her heart fluttered when he gave her a half smile that showed his dimple.
She found herself staring at him as he continued to look back at her, a little strangely. What's with that look? she wondered, frowning. Then Caroline realized that she had been sitting there, staring at him for- she subtly checked her watch- four minutes!
They just kept staring at each other for a few more minutes. Jacob suddenly looked to the left where Caroline's father was standing for who knew how long?
Caroline felt her cheeks heat up. "Excuse me," she told Jacob, "I'd like to talk to my dad for a second."
Her dad was giving her the worst stare-down in the world. "Would you care to explain what is going on here?" He asked.
"He's just a friend, Dad," Caroline said, face still on fire.
"Are you sure about that? You looked kind of, what's the word? I don't know. You looked like you wanted to kiss him, in our living room." He replied angrily.
My face grew even warmer. "Dad," I began, trying to be calm, "it was nothing. And either way, I'm sixteen! What's wrong with wanting to kiss someone at sixteen! You know, not that I did..." my voice trailed off, but my face was still bright red.
Caroline's mom walked into the room holding her little brother who was only one year old. "What is going on in here? I could hear you all the way from the bedroom!" She almost yelled.
Caroline glanced over at Jacob. He was blushing, which made him look about ten times as cute as usual, and looking very flustered. I winced slightly and turned to my parents and Oscar. "You guys!" I hissed. "Can we please have this conversation later?" I motioned to Jacob.
"Fine, but don't think you are off the hook. We will talk at dinner." My dad said. I rolled my eyes and sat back down on the couch as they walked away.
I turned to Jacob again, now nervous. "Did you..." Jacob said, blushing even more and then clearing his throat. "Did you actually want to kiss me?" Oh, snap.
"Did you want to kiss me?" I asked blushing even more than I thought possible.
Jacob grinned, not blushing anymore. how? I thought, is he not blushing right now? "Hmmmm," he said, placing a finger on his chin as if in thought. "Let's think about that..."
"Don't play with my emotions Jake. Do you mind if I call you that?" I asked. I could tell that he was trying to get me anxious.
Holy cow I thought, still blushing slightly but grinning. we start out talking about how he won the lottery and end up talking about kissing!
Jake raises an eyebrow. "Why, this is getting your emotions involved? Caroline! What does that mean?"
Jake raises an eyebrow. "Why, this is getting your emotions involved? Caroline! What does that mean?"
"You should know what I mean! It's kind of obvious." He is starting to fidget with his hands.
"Oh, but I don't! Would you care to enlighten me?" He's full-on grinning by now, and I'm starting to get exasperated.
"Why don't you try and guess." I said my voice rising with each word.
"Well," he says, his face suddenly serious, "if I had to guess, I would say that maybe it means... that you'll consider going with me to the Winter Formal?"
"Oh my gosh! Really? Of course I will go with you!" I was ecstatic. I screamed these words at the top of my lungs.
Jacob grinned, and looked me in the eye. "Caroline, I have a confession to make." Oh, no. That was a joke, wasn't it? Now I'll be humiliated! Oh, no, oh, no, oh, no... "I never won the lottery." Wait, what?

"Huh? What was that all about then?" I was so confused. I have never been so confused in my life.

"I..." Jacob looked truly flustered for the first time since he came here. "I made up that story so I could see you. You see," he said, fidgeting with his hands, "we hardly ever talk. You're shy, I'm outgoing. You have good grades, me? Not so much. But I've always admired you. You're smart, you're clever, you're funny... and you're. Um. You know." He blushed. "Pretty."
"What? No, I'm not pretty. If anything I'm ugly at best." I argued.

I blushed as sheer confusion and excitement arose in my slender, tall face. Did Jacob just call me pretty? What the He*l

Jacob snorted. "Ugly at best? Caroline, you're like a goddess! Have you ever even looked in a mirror?" His tone was harsh, and I winced a bit. It wasn't meant as an insult, but it hurt nonetheless. "Caroline," he said, his voice softer, "you're beautiful."
"How long have you liked me?" I asked flustered.

" YOU have been in my thoughts since 5th grade my love" Jacob said with a soft smile on his face.
"5th grade! Have we even known each other that long?" I wondered.

I grinned despite myself. 5th grade. Wow. suddenly, I heard Dad calling me. "Caroline! Time for lunch!" I groaned internally. Jacob and I both stood, and he smiled at me. "I guess I should go then."

It was after midnight and I had not got a wink of sleep as I was too busy thinking about the day I had had!

I will make the first sentence:
She couldn't believe it. Was it really him?
