Herman Mayvile meets criteria for borderline personality disorder, and is most certainly afflicted with this condition. He is a prideful, egotistical, and megalomaniac man, yet deeply insecure. Herman's pride is what keeps him from accepting money from anyone even when his family needed it Furthermore, he tells his son that he doesn't want to be remembered as a weak, dying man . A prideful Herman insists that his former partner was not a genius, but was rather copying off someone else's work.A truly dangerous man who will terminate the "sick" and his enemies while pretending to care for others.
Every time Herman comes up against someone with more power than he does, instead of retreating he systematically destroys them and takes their place. First Sal, then Tyson, Gunther, and finally Melson, until only he is left holding the keys to the kingdom. He is shown to possess a kingpin's unbeatable survival skills: sociopathy, cunning, emotional manipulation, meticulousness, and violence – or at least the threat thereof.he’s evolved as a businessman, but he’s turned into a sociopath in both his personal and professional lives. He’s shed basic empathy and had no idea how much his colleagues and wife loathed him.

Herman Walter Mayville was born on September 16, 1964 in a small town called Hartwell, Indiana to a couple named Hector and Sara. Even from the day he was born he was lonely, as an infant he was given very little attention from both of his parents. His father would tend to stay overnights at the office and work or go out with strippers. His mother on the other hand would often go out and party with her girlfriends, and sleeping with male strippers. So when it came down to who Herman spent most of his time with numerous different babysitters. He could barely remember any of them due to the fact his parents kept firing them cause his father or mother would end up sleeping with them. This continued till Herman was three and child services finally got wind through one of the former babysitters(one of the clean ones) finally spoke up about how Herman’s family treated him and so he was picked up from his house and delivered to Wilhelmina's Foster Home and was there for years.

The day he was dropped off at his foster home his life changed from there. The woman who ran it was cold uncaring woman named Ms. Finch who made sure the kids were proper and more like servants than actual kids. Always making sure they made her and her friends were given the best five star treatment from her “tenants”. Herman learned to very polite and posh from Ms. Finch but inwardly hated the way she treated him and thought something needed to be done about her. Taking matters into his own hand he began to read books on poison and body chemistry. He learned about Arsenic and how small doses could kill doses but be undetectable in police autopsies. Soon it was his turn to prepare Ms. Finch’s dinner so for three weeks cycle he would slip small amounts until Ms Finch passed away. And as predicted the police didn’t suspect. I mean the kid was just eleven. The Foster Home closed down and Herman was bounced from home to home until he was thirteen and settled into a small quiet town near L.A.

In the beginning not much changed. Growing up in a town so influenced by L.A, fake was in and real was not. So being a lower middle class kid with no parents didn’t get much attention , heck he was invisible he joked the he was just hydrogen in there eyes. As time went on he found a true love in the high school and it was called Chemistry. Even since his first chemistry class Herman was amazed by Chemistry. How it was everything, how it affected everything, how it could decay… anything. Due to his his intelligence he excelled in Chemistry to the dismay of his new foster father Evan Peters who wanted him get his nose out of a book and into some sport. Herman refused to which caused his foster father to get violent and make Herman give in. He became the water boy of the high school football team and he truly hated it. It was ruled by a neanderthal named Skylar Halt and the rest of his apes. Herman was abused emotionally and physically by the team and his complaints would always fall on deaf ears. So he decided to pull out an old trick and began to spike the team’s drinking water slowly causing them to become sickly and Skylar to pass away due to his weak immune system causing the team to suspend the season for the rest of the year. Of course Herman’s luck showed because during the time of the arsenic poisoning, America was contracting a special virus known as the Emria Virus which had all the symptoms, so Skylar’s death was pinned on the virus causing no further investigation leaving Herman once again free of suspension. The end of the football season allowed Herman to return to his chemistry studies… until his foster father demanded he join another sport. This enraged Herman and decided he needed to end his foster father once and for all. So seeing his step mother take out an insurance gave him a great idea. He learned of the poisonous ricen bean and managed to slip it into his mothers special spice and after Even Peter’s died they immediately suspected his mother and arrested her instead with no suspicion of Herman. With his father died he was able to focus fully on his chemistry studies and stayed with his friend Jonathan until he graduated and began to studies to become the greatest chemist who ever lived.
ADULTHOOD:
The day he graduated Herman swore he was gonna put his past behind him and move on to a better future, no more stooping to that level. So as predicted Herman began pursuing a Masters in Chemistry and point to change the world for the better. It had a rocky start, cause he had barely any income and worked numerous and pointless jobs to keep taking the advanced chemistry classes he needed to keep his dream alive. After a while it seemed his college life was going no where until his luck acted up and he got a new roommate named Neil Hoover. Neil was a rich boy from massachusetts who wanted to get a masters in chemistry as well and was more than willing to help Herman pay for his classes and together they decided to found a small company called Eco Matter which was dedicated to entirely to chemistry and it’s discoveries . Everything was going great. Herman finally felt that he was going to make a difference in the world. Then Neil brought in a third party, Tyson. Tyson was the player that was gonna put their company on the map Neil said and make them famous. WHich Herman believed but unknown to him that behind the scenes Neil and Tyson fell in love which Herman was totally oblivious too.Finally it happened, the big scientific breakthrough that landed Herman, Neil, and Tyson millions as well as The Nobel Prize. But Tyson convinced Neil that Herman didn’t really play part in project so why should he get any? So this caused Neil to cheat Herman out of the company and left him with nothing. So after leaving he barely had any college experience under his belt due to him dropping out to found Eco Matter. With no where else to turn he became a middle school science teacher. With his life going nowhere he seemingly gave up until he meet the 8th grade english teacher Laura Harding. The two slowly fell in love and eventually got married and had two children named John and Mary.
Everything was going great. Herman was finally happy… then everything started falling apart. His wife got “sick” causing her to have to quit her job and stay home a lot more. With the money drying up. Herman became deposit and using his chemistry abilities was able to create a new more powerful version of Heroin that was actually very successful giving him extra money he would need to help pay for Laura’s future treatment. Coming home to surprise his wife with the extra money. He was horried to wife was having sex with their teenage pool boy, she had never been sick, it was just an excuse to stay home and have an affair with the pool boy. Something in Herman

Rest of Backstory:and in his blind rage he grabbed his gun and shot them both dead, coming to his senses he realized what he had done and couldn’t get arrested so he framed his daughter, very well, and was able to convince his son to create a fake alibi and that his sister was the killer. this became a major story and Herman cashed in every chance he got, while son began to get eaten inside with the secret. With no where else to turn Herman returned to the drug business creating more powerful and variety of drugs. Founding his own empire and taking out all of his enemies and soon became the most powerful kingpin in all of California. All the publicity of this new “Kingpin” attracted the attention of Chicago's best police officer young Joshua Boone( Herman’s Half Brother) Getting close to John he began secretly investigating his half brother on a sneaking suspicion he was much more than a middle school Chemistry teacher. And of course Herman wanted him gone, so while he was staying with him. Herman began poisoning his food but Josh knew not to trust him and brought the food to the forensic lab. When it tested positive for Arsenic Joshua sent two officers to arrest him. Herman knew it was over soon, but he wasn't going to die in some prison and be forgotten.
So when they came in he killed both officers, and realized they were close but he wasn’t going down without a fight. So he took refuge in an abandon house which was colorfully known as the murder house. Once inside he wired the house with numerous “chemistry booby traps”. Later that day numerous officers arrived and stormed the house, a bunch falling victims to the traps and a couple dying with others were horribly disfigured. Josh followed behind and managed to corner Herman in the basement but not before a chem bomb blew off his leg. Which Josh lay in shock Herman pulled back the trigger to shoot him but someone shot Herman instead and it was Jonathan and Herman bled out and died moments later. Jonathan in his crying state told Josh that Herman wasn’t his father anymore and that what he killed was just a shell of the amazing man he knew before and now Herman Mayville is forever part of the house.
