This year, I am going to do what I'm calling "Flash Readathons." These will be announced a day or so in advance, starting with the next one, and will run for 48 hours. They will also be themed!

To start our first one, since it is Valentines Day, the theme is Romance or Valentines. The goal is to find a book that has a valentine motief on the cover, is pink or red, or is a romance, or possible has Valentine in the title!

Let us know what you are reading!

This runs February 14 and 15 only!

Lots of romance in the air! I'm still thinking about what to read myself!

message 11: by Tr1sha (new)

Tr1sha | 828 comments Decision made - I’ll start reading a book with a pink cover:
A Passage To India by E.M. Forster

Celia (cinbread19) | 50 comments I just finished

Their Eyes Were Watching God.

It is not a romance novel, but it is a book about love.

It is a wonderful book, very sad at times.

I am going to start reading Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare.
I have seen it a few times but never actually read it.

I ended up with Penric’s Demon, which is an earlier book in the series with Curse of Chalion, my original choice. So far it’s really good! :)

I read Twelfth Night and loved it. I loved the plot and the happy ending.

message 21: by Tr1sha (new)

Tr1sha | 828 comments I’ve been reading A Passage to India (pink cover). I love the idea of this readathon, but this book was a bad choice - wanted to read it for ages, have enjoyed other books by Forster, but am bored with this one so far. I seem to have read a number of books that follow the same pattern recently - a reasonable start, then endless gossip & socialising before anything happens.

That's a good place to start, especially if you're not getting a lot of reading time. Not too hard to get into.

I absolutely adore Penric, Allison. You were right; it was the perfect choice!

Trisha-
I also found Passage to be a bit of a slow starter, but so, so worth it. If it’s not for you now, definitely keep it on your list. Just an amazing book!

Thanks for your advice, Renee - I’ll try it again some time.

Tr1sha | 828 comments Allison or Renee (or anyone else who knows!) - I don’t know anything about Fantasy books but was interested in your comments here. Would you recommend reading “Penric’s Demon” or “The Curse of Chalion” first? Or are they both bad choices for someone new to the genre?
Thanks for any advice you can give.

Penric's Demon might be a good place to start, just because it's short and easy to get into. Then if you like it, keep going from there.
