Ward 5 of the infirmary, linked to building 5. This ward specializes in inmates from block 5 and tends to tend to those specifically from that building unlike the main ward which will attend to anyone from any of the buildings and guards. This ward not only has an hospital layout, but it includes a research lab and some offices as well.

Sakurasou | 302 comments Shinobu made his way to the infirmary, already dressed in his usual work outfit, and after unlocking the room stepped inside the infirmary. He was already expecting a few prisoners to drop by today, as well as for Kae to grace him with her presence as she always did during his shifts. Though he did hope she would have her breakfast first at least.

Kaelan, not ever one to pass up on meal time, arrived in the infirmary a bit after Shinobu had started his shift. Even running all the way here from the cafeteria, making it on time was very difficult. Nonetheless, she made her appearance, which was as extravagant as her personality suggests. Throwing the infirmary doors open, entering and immediately had her head lowered in a bow. "Sorry for being late!" she immediately apologized. Her strong moral sense was riddling her with guilt. She hated being unpunctual, no matter the unforeseen circumstance.
She straightened up and looked directly at Shin, "I will make up for it. What do you want me to do?" she asked, determined to help in one way or another.

Sakurasou | 302 comments When Kaelan had made her rather dramatic entry into the infirmary, Shinobi was busying himself at a counter, prepping supplies and supplements for the next patient, who was due to come in a few minutes. He glanced over at Kaelan blankly when he heard her voice, not surprised, for he'd known she was going to show up sooner or later.
As expected, however, as soon as Kae began apologizing, he went into his usual panic state, waving his hands around frantically as he attempted to assure her. "You're not really late! Only by a few minutes," he promised. "You don't owe me anything."

Kae immediately raised her hand to silence him. Her stubborn nature dictated that as soon as she had decided she was in the wrong, she would make up for it. Own your mistakes, make up for them and ensure you never repeat them. "Either way, I owe it to myself to make up for my tardiness. I am at your disposal," she informed him firmly, "and I will be sad if I am not given the opportunity to own up to it," she added, knowing he needed a little push to ensure this happened. She then grinned at him, "it would make me feel more useful than just sitting off to the side," she added. She was never one to sit still unless for a very specific purpose but if she could get out of it, she would.

((how long a time skip is this? the next day? just wondering cause of her whole shoulder thing... which I should properly keep consistent xD))

Sakurasou | 302 comments (( I was thinking the next day, yea ^^ ))

Shin instantly shut his mouth obediently the moment she raised her hand, though his expression was one of protest. He listened to her with reluctant attentiveness, until she mentioned being sad if he were to refuse giving her a task, and out of guilt, decided to oblige her due to it. He looked around the room, clearly attempting to find for her something to do. When he turned back to her again, he simply shrugged. "I guess you could clean up, if you want." He suggested.

((okay! Thanks ^^))

Kaelan grinned once he'd given her something to do. Sure it wasn't much and offhanded, but nonetheless, it would make her feel useful. She nodded, "thanks!" she chirped, glad to be able to do something. Even if she wasn't the best at cleaning but she was good enough, especially if she tried hard.
It was some time into his shift, she was working on scrubbing the floors. People have come and gone, some for routine checkups, others for wounds. She was taking longer than she normally would since her shoulder was still sore. It was a few moments while Kaelan was finishing up when the doors flew open and two guards were bringing in an inmate who was clearly injured and unconscious.

Sakurasou | 302 comments (( Np ^^ ))

Shinobu mostly focused his attention on his patients throughout the hours, especially when he was treating them, but he would also occasionally glance over at Kaelan worriedly to see how she was doing. Her shoulder was still healing, so he wished she wasn't cleaning, but he knew there was no point protesting when it came to Kaelan.
He simply exhaled a sigh and let her be, turning to face the inmate that had just been brought in instead. He gestured for the guards to lay the inmate down on the bed, already beginning to gather the equipment he would need to heal them.

The guards moved towards the bed Shin directed them to, laying the inmate down onto it, carefully to be treated. They stepped back, one immediately leaving to return to their post while one moved away from the bed to give Shin space to do what he does.
Kae watched cautiously but seeing the inmate unconscious, she plopped herself down on a chair nearby but not overly close. Despite she still kept an eye out, mainly for curiosity. Watching him treat people was always interesting.
When Shin eventually moved over and began to treat the prisoner. Not a moment after touching the wound, the inmate shot up and tackled Shin to the ground. In seconds of chaos, Kaelan leapt into action before even the guard could react. During the time she reached and pried the inmate off Shin, they had not only managed a few punches and scratches. However, the moment Kae tore the guy clear up off Shin, they'd grasped hold of Shin's eyepatch and ripped it off along with him.
Kaelan and the other guard managed to get the inmate pinned to the bed before strapping him to it so he couldn't get out. All the beds were equipped with the shackles.
As soon as the danger was out of the way, ignoring her anger at herself but also the guard to not inform them of the potential danger presented by the prisoner, she turned her worried attention to Shin. The pain in her shoulder not even registering at this point.

message 10: by Sakurasou (new)

Sakurasou | 302 comments Shin collected his things as quickly as he always did and then pushed the swivel chair he sat on with his feet close enough to the bed to begin treating the inmate's wound. He had barely begun the treatment when suddenly the inmate pounced off the bed, his weight collapsing on top of Shin. He crashed to the floor and a moment later was made quickly aware that the inmate intended to use his fists, so he used the one defense position he actually knew (thanks to Kae's teachings), and that was to cross his arms together over his face, which luckily limited a lot of damage in that area. He didn't have to hold the stance for long either; it was only a few seconds and Kaelan was already behind the inmate, pulling him off of Shin. Unfortunately, the eyepatch that covered Shin's right eye went right along with him.
When the inmate was off, not a single concern going through Shin's head was for any of the minor injuries he sustained; they were all focused on one single thing and that was the realization that his right eye was exposed and in plain view. It was visible for only a few seconds, since Shin noticed the change immediately (considering he wore the eyepatch so much that it was practically a part of his body) and his hand instantly shot up to cover the blood red iris, different from the black of his left eye. Panic went through him like a shock- he was sure Kae had caught at least a glimpse of it, considering she was staring right at him. What if she thought it looked unsightly? What if she hated him for it? What if he lost the one single friend he'd ever made all because he stupidly let his guard down? It made him feel like his stomach was tying itself into a knot. He surprisingly actually enjoyed Kae's presence around him very much. He didn't want to lose that.
Pressing his hand onto the covered eye harder, he reached out a shaky hand to try and grab the eyepatch back from the prisoner.

Red, Kaelan saw a flash of red before Shin had his eye covered. It wasn't enough time to process anything but the fact his eye looked injured. One thing in her line of profession taught her was the eye injuries occurred and often resulted in blindness. Eyesight was rather important for a doctor so she was immediately and incredibly concerned. Kae rushed over immediately, using her good arm to bring him gently up to rest on her propped leg instead of on the ground. "Are you okay? Did they get your eye? I saw blood," she shot off, her hand moving to check to see how bad his eye was. Since she saw red, she naturally assumed it was blood after being attacked by the inmate. It was only reinforced when his hand immediately went to cover it again. She pulled his hand away from his eye, her strength easily overcoming his and she paused when there wasn't any blood. She was silent for a few moments, eyes widening in surprise and then amazement. "That's so cool! Why do you wear an eye patch?" she demanded. Momentarily forgetting the incident that just occurred in favour of discussing his eye. "It's so unique and pretty. I don't see why you're hiding it. A eye patch only hinders your sight, work and ability to defend and fight," she rambled, having released her grip on his arm.

message 12: by Sakurasou (new)

Sakurasou | 302 comments Shin visibly stiffened all over when Kae approached him, his gaze on the ground and avoiding hers. He was grateful for her support, but well enough he believed to make do and therefore was using his free hand to push himself up when Kae spoke. "I'm fine. I'm not injured," he replied simply, trying again to stand up but not quick enough to avoid Kae's hand on his. He tensed and pressed the hand over his eye harder, but in the end did not possess the super strength that Kae did and was easily overpowered. He was frozen for a moment in shock when he realized she could see the eye, before he violently turned the other way to avoid her looking at it any more, practically shaking. He was now determined to get up and leave as fast as he possibly could, and was in the process of doing so when Kae actually spoke out about the eye and he whipped around to face her, shock and bewilderment written clearly on his face, as if he were having a difficult time believing her.
He sat there just staring at her in astonishment for several moments, not even knowing what to say. Finally, he came up with: ".. w-why are you complimenting it? You're not supposed to like it. It's odd... and unsightly."

Not wanting to hurt Kae, her grip on him loosened when he began to violently struggle and released her grip. She was also too distracted and completely fascinated by this new discovery. She'd always assumed he'd had it injured or it was missing or something. Her very own pirate best friend or something silly like that. The details didn't matter but to know he was hiding something that cool. It was like something you'd see during Halloween. Her brow was raised, watching him confusion though. He didn't seem to like it. That much she understood and she couldn't comprehend why. It was strange, you didn't see stuff like that often but it was rather pretty if you think about it.
Kaelan looked at him after he asked his question and just smirked in amusement. She leaned forward to clap him on the shoulder. "How is it unsightly? Sure it's odd. Not many people have two different coloured eyes, especially not that different but it's pretty cool. And I'm really glad you eye isn't hurt or anything. You should show it off. Most people have boring eyes," she said, the last statement spoken in a teasing tone. "Like me," she stated with a wink. She pulled back then and gave him a big grin.

message 14: by Sakurasou (new)

Sakurasou | 302 comments Shin had to stay sitting on the ground for Kae to actually be able to clap his shoulder, with the height difference and all, but he didn't care much for that; he was more engaged in what Kaelan had to say. Which wasn't something he'd heard ever before, to say the least. He was making no efforts to mask his surprise in her words as he listened, or in his clear doubt in them. Once she'd finished, though, he seemed to be considering them as true, and moreover accepting them.

"... your eyes may be ordinary, but your personality isn't," he said at last with a quiet, defeated exhale of breath. And he meant it, too. Kae was bluntly the most unique and, in his opinion, weird person he had ever met. And her acceptance of his eyes, which he believed most people would find rather creepy and distributing, only proved it to him. He wasn't sure how he'd ever gotten himself involved with someone like her.

Kaelan began to laugh heartily at his statement. A big wide grin on her lips from his, what she took it as, compliment. She rose herself high enough to just barely reach to ruffle the tips of his hair. "We complement each other that way," she joked brightly. She was glad to see that he wasn't questioning her words. She had seen enough of her brothers after being tormented by bullies to know why someone would view themselves so poorly. She those signs well enough and the after-effects even more so.
She took his cheeks in her hands, bringing them down so she could kiss just beside his unusually coloured eye. "It's interesting but I won't push you into showing everyone. Baby steps," she told him, pulling away with a wink.

"How much of your shift is left?" she asked him, worried about him. It was quite an incident and sure it was rather common in this place but it could be too much excitement for one day.

Sakurasou | 302 comments (Kae is so precious ohmygosh I love her T^T )

Shin looked surprised when she came close enough to cup his cheeks, but nowhere near as stunned and bewildered he was when she kissed right next to his eye. He was so taken aback in fact that he did not react at all for several moments. When reality finally came crashing down on him again, he practically zoomed away from Kae, though he didn't put a lot of distance between them. His face turned bright red, all the way to the tips of his ear. Considering how pale his skin was, it became the first easily noticeable trait about him.
Shin didn't really know much about physical contact, but from all the books he'd read before, he knew that a kiss was usually a form of showing affection. Obviously something he wasn't accustomed to so it made him rather flustered. Not so much that he couldn't answer Kae's question though.
He was grateful that she didn't intend to push him into getting rid of the eye patch.

"Just half an hour," he replied quietly, avoiding meeting her eyes.

((They're both precious xD Shin is so fricken adorable xD))

Unlike Shin, Kae was very used to physical displays of affection. It was the main way she showed her feelings since words weren't exactly her forte. However, she suspected that he wouldn't easily take this, with his past of being awkward with touching. It was a bit amusing seeing him freeze while she pulled away and rested back on her heels. She watched as he moved away and a blush light up his pale complexion. She pinched her lips together, biting down on them to stop herself from smiling and releasing some laughter. He was just too cute and funny.

She waited for him to finally reply, her lips twitching at the fact he couldn't meet her gaze. "Good, we'll go to lunch after," she declared and went back to sit on her chair. "Will you be cooking?" she asked him once she had planted herself, looking at him rather eagerly. She loved his food and was always down to have some of it.

Shin raised his head to look at her and upon seeing how eager she seemed to receive a yes, he couldn't bring himself to say anything else. "Yeah, I'll be cooking," he confirmed, turning away. He gave her a slight wave and then returned to his shift to finish off the remaining time. There were only about 1 or 2 patients left so he wouldn't be strained to finish in time. It was a little hard to focus, since he was still feeling a bit flustered but he was able to put it off for the most part.

A half hour later, he was completely finished his turn. He cleaned up, put everything away and was soon walking over to the door, expecting Kae to follow as he left the room and locked up. ".. I'm thinking of making steak today," he mentioned as they walked down the hall towards the kitchen.

((Lots of love xD))

Kae's expression lit up in pure and unrestricted joy. "Yes," she cheered to herself, sitting back happy and ready to sit at her station until he was ready to leave. It was a very strong motivation to keep her on the spot since she really hated feeling so useless.

Once he had wrapped up and headed towards the exit, Kaelan leaped to her feet and immediately followed out behind him. She advanced to walk by his side and grinned when he mentioned steak. Her mouth already watering as she moaned, "that sounds great!" she declared, even more, eager for food now. However, she knew that it would still take time to prepare and cook so she would be patient. "Potatoes for a side?" she asked, a near skip in her step as they walked.

((btw, so you know. I plan on having Shin be confronted by Temp after dinner and Kae has to leave for rollcall etc))

Shin looked back at her when he heard her cheering to herself, looking amused but did not comment. He simply gave her a reassuring nod and went back to his work.

"Baked vegetables," Shin said instead, shrugging lightly. "It's healthier. And they taste good," he added, thought he doubted he needed to since Kae really didn't seem to be picky at all with her food, but oh well.

He lead her to the kitchen where a chair was already propped at the back, waiting for Kae and wasted no time in getting started. He wouldn't need as much time as last time, since all he had to do really was season and bake the vegetables and cook the steak after seasoning as well. Half an hour was all that he needed and by then, he was done and plating the food, afterwards approaching Kae with a plate that he held out to her.

((Oke, got it. So he wouldn't see Kae again till the next day? ))

Kaelan grinned, "awesome," she responded, mouth practically drooling at the thought of good food. She was lost in a daze of food during their travels to the kitchen. Once there she parked a seat at the counter and watched him work. She hated feeling useless, especially when the scent of food became potent enough to have her stomach growling. However, she knew that she wouldn't be any help besides cleaning dishes. The food was well worth the weight but it didn't stop her from sneaking a few vegetables to snack on before he got them ready to bake.

Eventually, the food was down and she gratefully took the plate from him. "Thank you!" she exclaimed, placing the plate down in front of her. She had already gotten them drinks and utensils so they were set there, wanting to be able to eat as soon as it was done. "It smells great," she complimented, taking in a whiff before she cut a piece and shovelled that and some of the vegetables into her mouth. Chewing and swallowing with a moan. "So good," she murmured and dug in.

((Yes, only until the next day. ))

message 22: by Sakurasou (new)

Sakurasou | 302 comments Shinobu nodded once lightly when she thanked him, pulling up a chair next to her to sit down. His gaze softened when she complimented the food, his whole appearance seeming brighter thanks to it. He was glad to see she liked it. It was one of the few things he could have confidence in. He ate his portion silently next to her, taking his time with it. He had no reason to hurry, after all. Kae would have to leave soon for roll call though so he understood why she was eating faster. Or maybe because she genuinely liked everything that much. Either way he didn't mind.

Kaelan was never one to eat her meal slowly. Just slow enough to savour and appreciate. In this case, it was more because she was enjoying it so much, which was shown in the couple of moans she vocalized during her meal. When she polished off her plate, she had an extremely satisfied expression on her face but she took a sip of her drink and got up to get seconds. However, she noticed the time and let out a sound that was akin to a whining dog. She scowled a bit and glanced at Shin. "I'll wash what I ate on but I can't stick around to wash everything else," she apologized, quickly getting the sinks ready. During which she put whatever food that was left away in the fridge, with the whispered promise to eat them later. She quickly washed up her dishes, laying them to dry in the rack before she hopped down from the step stool, tucking it away and went over to give Shin a hug. It was a bit crushing, but she controlled most of her strength. It was a warm and firm hug nonetheless. "I'll see you tomorrow!" she told him, ruffling his hair with a grin but had to quickly dash off. She couldn't be late for roll call again. She'd get a penalty this time instead of just a warning.

message 24: by Sakurasou (new)

Sakurasou | 302 comments Shin shook his head when she apologized to him; "It's fine," he assured her. He silently watched her clean up and as soon as he noticed she was beginning to approach him, swiftly set his plate down, unwilling to drop it lest Kae should hug him again. He was starting to expect the hugs now; they no longer surprised him or made him tense up like before. He didn't mind that they were a little crushing, he liked them all the same. He bid her farewell and waved as she left the kitchen, murmuring: "See you."

Once Kae had gone, he finished up the remainder of food on his plate with leisure, cleaned up the dishes, tidied up the rest of the kitchen and clicked off the lights as he left, making his way down the halls towards his room. The halls leading to the rooms were fairly empty for the most part, as per usual. It was pretty late, after all.

((argh. I love them. ))

During Shin's travel through the hall. It was as peaceful as walking through a prison filled with very dangerous inmates could be. Until he turned a certain corner and he collided against something. Specifically an arm, a thin but strong arm. Said arm belonged to a finely dressed man decked out in a suit wearing a pair of shades over his eyes despite being inside and night. He was incredibly tall, the polar opposite of the company Shin was with prior standing at over 6 feet. Fitted with messy dirty blonde hair and a bow tie, he looked down at Shin with a scowl twisting his attractive features.

message 26: by Sakurasou (new)

Sakurasou | 302 comments ( Same! )

Shin had been walking his usual path back to his room when he turned the corner and suddenly found himself being blocked by someone. He looked at the man intercepting him, having to raise his head to do so. The man was impressingly tall. Shin took one look at his face and immediately saw all the dangers signs in his mind. Well, more like trouble. The man was intimidating but it didn't really look like beating Shin up had been the reason for his interruption so he was able to put away some worries there. At best, Shin figured he was going to be highly troublesome. And that was not something he wished to deal with.
He smoothly stepped to the step, away from the man's outstretched arm, and attempted to walk right by him.

"Clearly my intent was to stop you," the man drawled, his voice low and spoken lazily. An attractive husk that surely had girls fawning over. Temp moved with Shin in unison to avoid him slipping past. Though he didn't have to move all that much to stop Shin's initial attempt. "We need to talk," he said. The words were spoken casually but the fact that the man straightened his arched shoulders to add to the many inches he already had on Shin. It spoke volumes in comparison to his words.
Tempest then slipped the arm he'd used to stop Shin into his trouser pocket and stared down at the guy. He looked easier to break than a pencil. It made sense from what he'd observed so far why Kaelan would do so much. It was simple foolishness to hire anyone that couldn't protect themselves in this place. Temp clenched his jaw, his hands fisting within his pockets. Exhaling through his nose to contain his temper. He turned on his heel and began walking in a hasten pace considering his usual lethargic saunter. "Follow," he commanded, not giving Shin a choice and the guy seemed like the type to drag him if he didn't follow willingly. Temp wanted to get away from the eyes watching them.

message 28: by Sakurasou (new)

Sakurasou | 302 comments Shin blatantly ignored the man's drawl, continuing with his meek attempt at avoiding him. Unfortunately for him, Temp was just as quick and swiftly put a halt to Shin's movements. He'd been avoiding meeting the guy's shaded gaze, and even now, as he spoke, Shin continued to fix his stare at the floor by his feet, not daring to look elsewhere. He noticed when the arm blocking his way fell near the stranger's side, and if Shin had any confidence in his speed, he would've made a run for it. But alas, his greatest flaw was his complete lack of faith in himself. Shin was silent and unresponsive while thoughts ran through his head, but before he could voice any, he heard the sound of footsteps and looked up to find the man walking ahead of him. Earlier, Shin had thought the guy probably had no interest in doing anything much to him. Now, as he followed after him reluctantly (he would prefer walking by himself over being dragged, and he could tell he would be dragged if he tries anything with this guy), he wasn't so sure and his stomach hurt with anxiety.
"... as far as I know, we have never met before this," he voiced aloud as they walked, and surprisingly enough, his voice was level and calm. "... I don't see what you could possibly have to talk to me about," he added in a softer, more uncertain voice. He also wanted to ask who this man was, since he wasn't dressed in any kind of uniform that would represent his position here, but he held off on that question for now.

"You're correct, we haven't," Temp replied as he walked, shoulders hunched which did nothing to hinder his towering height. However, there was a distinct class with the way he walked, a swagger that combined with his formal attire didn't match the prison scene. More of a yakuza scene. Hell, it was like Temp was smoking a ghost cigarette with the image being so vivid. "It has something to do with a certain individual you're keeping around," he stated. Despite appearance, his tone wasn't directly threatening. If anything it was calm and monotone.
Temp soon found a door leading to a room that would suit his fancy and opened it. Leaving a space between himself and the door while still grasping the top of it. He nodded for Shin to head on through, not giving him any other choice than to squeeze past him to get inside.
However, once they were inside and the door closed behind Temp, the man leaned against the door, hands still in his pockets as he stared Shin down. Despite the posture seeming to be quite lacking, there was something about it that made it unusual. A readiness and slight strictness that most didn't have.
"Let's get down to business," he began, taking a cig out and lighting it. He took a puff before he began, "Kaelan Cypher. Ever since coming into contact with you, her sentence has increased by three years," he informed Shin. He stared at him through his blue tinted glasses and crooked nose. "Were you aware of that?"

message 30: by Sakurasou (new)

Sakurasou | 302 comments Shin wasn't really sure what impression to make of Temp; he didn't trust him in the slightest, that much he figured, but otherwise, Temp was a mystery to him. He didn't seem like he fit in here, but perhaps Shin had simply just never seen him around. Which wouldn't be shocking at all, considering Shin rarely paid anyone he didn't know even a single glance. He reluctantly followed the stranger as he lead him around, hoping all this trouble would just be over already so he could return to the comfort of his own room, long overdue.

When Temp finally found himself a room and ushered Shin inside, he stared at him warily for a second before gulping and inching his way inside the room. Once in, he attempted to put as much distance between himself and Tempest as possible, which was thankfully possible with Temp leaning against the door and staying there. He stared at him suspiciously until he spoke up, delicately avoiding the puffs of smoke Temp blew out.

He slowly nodded. "... yes." He murmured, and went quiet for a moment as he read between the lines. He had known Kae's sentence was growing, hence why he had so many times gone out of his way to get Kae out of whatever situation she'd planted herself in, and so many times had lied on her behalf to ensure she wouldn't elongate it even more.
Then, he surprisingly spoke again. Lately his confidence was increasing some. "... you think I am the reason for her increased prison sentence." He spoke it without emotion, as if it were a fact, and waited for Tempest to either acknowledge it as true or reject it.

Tempest took another puff, mainly to try and cool any chance for his temper to spike. He didn't want to actually hurt the guy. If he could avoid it, he will. He didn't get some sick pleasure from intimidating or hurting people unlike some of the people in this fucking place.
Temp then exhaled deeply and nodded his head, glad the guy was smart enough to get what he was dishing out. "Correction," he began, looking Shin in the eye, "I know you are. She won't lay a hand on anyone without being provoked or in order to stop conflict and indecency," he stated and hit the ashes into his hand. He didn't want to litter. "You can assume why I'm bothering to bring this up, " he continued, pulling out a tin from his pocket to put the ashes and butt into it. While he stashed that away, he began advancing on Shin. "I need you to stay away from her. Otherwise, the longer she'll stay here unnecessarily and the more chances she could kill herself. You look like a reasonable guy," Temp stated, stopping just a few steps away from Shin, "so I suggest doing what I say."

Sakurasou | 302 comments Shin wasn't the least bit surprised to hear what Temp had to say, for most of it was true, he knew from experience. Everything he'd said about Kae was spot on. Normally, he would've been curious of what Temp's relationship with her was, how he knew all this, maybe even shoveled his nerves aside to ask. But at the moment, Temp's words were hitting him rather hard, leaving no room for any other thoughts in his head.

He knew the logical thing to do would be to take Temp's advice, listen to him, and cut off his ties with Kae. It wasn't as if he hadn't cut off plenty of people before, Kae would be no different. Just another repetition of the same cycle that constantly occured in his life. He was aware nothing good ever came out of being with him, but hanging around Kae so often had made him forget about that.

But despite all this, Shin felt a strong urge to defend himself. He wanted to protest and tell Temp that he actually tried to prevent Kae's sentence from increasing, and her sentence would probably be even longer if not for his interferences. He wanted to say that he was sick and tired of always letting people in only to cut them off, and that he wanted, just once, for it to last. But he found he was almost scared to say them, not confident enough, and the negative thoughts about himself around Kae overshadowed the good on his mind. The words froze up on his tongue and he ended up swallowing them back, looking away with an odd expression, like irritation, frustutation and defeat, all in one.
"I can't," he mumbled quietly, knowing he was just looking for an excuse. "She always comes by during my shifts... there's no way I can avoid her."

Temp's gaze didn't leave the smaller guy's face. His brows furrowed as he noted a distinct spark in the guy's eyes. Temp felt the corner of his lip twitching in a grin, hoping a little for a fight. However, when it died and the guy simply gave Tempest and meek excuse he was very disappointed. It was the right decision to get Shin away from Kae. If he couldn't even stand his ground with Temp, how could he handle keeping the hot-headed, stubborn as hell Kae from getting into trouble? Sure, they've never interacted before but Temp was a bit ashamed to even admit in his head that he'd become a glorified stalker. It's not like he could randomly go up to her and just introduce himself out of the blue with no excuse. It made no sense. Besides, he didn't want to form a connection. She had a life out of this place and that's where he was trying to get her back to.

"Then make it so she stops going to your shifts," Temp stated simply, "I don't care what you have to say but just do it," he told Shin. "You seem like a good kid and I don't really want to hurt anyone if I don't have to. However, I will make an exception, got it?" he drawled. He didn't want to continue this roundabout conversation. He knew the more it lasted, the more frustrated he'd become and that wouldn't be good for anyone. He'd be too wound up to go to bed. Thus, Temp began moving back towards the door.
"I'll know if you haven't done it, kid," he told Shin as he pulled his hand out from his pocket the grab the door handle.

Sakurasou | 302 comments Shin said nothing in response to Temp's reply nor his threats, though he did not seem particularly intimidated like he usually would be, and that was an improvement. Not that he was making a whole lot of it with being unable to talk back to Temp and all. Plus he was positive he would struggle if not be unable to say anything dramatic to Kae. If he really wanted her to leave, he would probably have to hurt her in some way, or convince her that he was no longer in need of her protection. The latter was logically impossible in his current position and time frame, and he suspected the same applied to the former. He doubted he'd be able to hurt Kae even if he tried, especially not after everything they've been through together and all that she has done for him. She changed him to some extent and that wasn't easy to throw away.

He numbly stared after Temp as he opened the door and left, staying in the room a few more minutes even after his leave, replaying his words and options over and over again in his head like a broken video player. Eventually, he pushed himself off the wall and made his way to his room, collapsing onto his bed with his phone in his hands as soon as he was inside. He found his superior's number- the doctor that was responsible for him- and carefully typed out a message requesting a day off, claiming he was feeling sick, and pressed 'send'. Shin had diligently been present for every single day of work ever since he started working at Nanba, not one day missed, so he assumed his boss would probably be lenient enough to let him have one for the first time. He was not ready to face Kae tomorrow and knew if he tried that he would only ruin any and all chances of severing his bond with her and then what? Tempest would probably come after him and if that encounter ended badly enough, Shin might have to give up his job. After that, he'd have nowhere else to go. Shin was a pessimist and he lived up to the title. He would truthfully just prefer to forget about this whole ordeal but that he couldn't do so he decided instead that he'd give himself one day. As long as he didn't see Kae for the whole day, he could probably eventually summon the courage to let her go. He knew for a fact he'd never told her which room was his, nor had she ever been able to walk him there since her roll call was always early. So he figured he would be fine, that it was safe to assume she wouldn't find him.

((Shall we continue to next day? If so. what's the plan? Do we want Shin to successfully avoid her for a few days? Finally hunt him down and demand to know what's up?))

Sakurasou | 302 comments (( Yep. I think Kae would probably hear about him being "sick" when she goes to the infirmary and then hunts him down to check on him and they end up confronting each other? ))
