I love death as the narrator. His perspective is strange and beautiful in the midst of such tragedy.
I think that perhaps she Liesel stole the book because it was like grasping at a last memento of her brother's life. Or perhaps, being sent to live with a foster family and losing her brother, she felt like stealing the book was something small in her life that she could actually control.
And I imagine her Papa is one of those people that others feel safe with and naturally gravitate to. Zusak described the kindness in his eyes, and he was just there for Liesel from the start. And I think, as far as Mama goes, the more Liesel got to know her, the more evident her love became. Mama doesn't show it often, but it's there all the same.
Rudy can be quite annoying at times, but I kind of love the silly way he follows Liesel everywhere like a smitten puppy. XD
