I'll be a bit late - I'm not gonna be able to read anything today because it's my anniversary today so I'll be celebrating with my boyfriend :) And I still have about 250 pages left of one book and 150 of another :P But I'll definitely hurry up and try finishing at least one of them tomorrow and then start on this one! Anyway, just thought I'd let you know :)

(view spoiler)[I can't believe what an arse that mother is. I don't even want to call her 'mother.' She's so furcked up! Seriously? They really should just call CPS, but I understand why they won't split up their family. This is sure to be a heartwrenching book! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 4:
(view spoiler)[I can. I'm happy it's not worse. She's not beating them. Parents who drink can easily become abusive. And living in a foster home is not much better. At least here they have each other and no other foster kids who abuse them.
I wonder if all of them have the same father. Also, Lochan seems like a weirdly created character. He's very normal at home, responsible even, but can't talk to anyone else. That's unusual. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 9:
(view spoiler)[Gosh. I just wanna lie down and cry.
I kind of want to think these feelings are...wrong. Gross. Disgusting. But I just can't. I get them, I get where they're coming from, as odd as it may sound. I mean, Lochan, he's never met anyone. And with this 'situation' they're both in, I kind of understand their need for one another. Do you get what I mean? :) Anyway, such a sad book! Definitely not a happy story, and I can't really see this having a happy ending. I mean, what would that be? Unless...they all just "move on" and get what people refers to as a "normal life." I just don't really see that happening.

I finished the book. Can't decide on a rating though!

To me, it was rather predictable at times; Kit telling, Lochan committing suicide. I don't know, somehow the ending felt rushed. I'd like to know what happened to the kids now that Maya decided to stay. And Lochan dying was kind of the "easy ending," although it probably was the most realistic ending as well. Yeah, I'm quite torn as to what I feel! 4 or 5 stars! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 9:
(view spoiler)[Yeah, it is sad, but interesting as well. I'm just watching American Horror story season 1, and compare to that one, this love seems a lot more hopeful XD.

I'm not sure if Maya seems the same way just yet, but I have a feeling she's going there. How she's so protective of him and doesn't like to think of him with another girl.

They won't ever have a normal family, but they're not having on right now either, so, guess I'll see what' going to happen next. Hopefully no one dies. @.@ (hide spoiler)]

Had this book for ages, but just not got round to it. This should be the kick I need to get it read.

Chapters 1-8. Suzuma magic in terms of creating mood-atmosphere and helping us get under the skin of her characters. Maya and Lachan have an unnaturally close bond-I suppose this comes from them having to play the roles of parents to their three younger siblings. The mother is infuriating.

Chapters 9-12. How can the adults in this story be more immature than the teenagers?

Chapters 13-16. The relationship is meant to mean everything to them, but part of me feels it's all a little melodramatic.

Chapters 17-21. Talk about odd.

Up to ch23. This family seem to exist in some kind of bubble, shutting them off from the real world. Can't help but think that in reality their situation would never have gone on so long.

(view spoiler)[ That is so innacurate. Schools aren't allowed to let kids be picked up by any person who isn't on file with administration. Obviously the mother doesn't care about her kids. But it's even worse that the kids are in a school that don't care about their well being to add to all the problems (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 12
(view spoiler)[ Honestly I thought there was going to be a lot more going on to make this relationship make sense but really there isn't. Flowers in the Attic had a more realistic depiction of this kind of thing in my opinion (hide spoiler)]

I agree with you. I found most of this to be really unrealistic

I really appreciated the characters in the first chapters. Lochan and Maya are just two teenagers who have to take care of two little kids plus their other brother Kit (who is a pain). Their dad has left them and their mother... well... I don't even know what to call her.
Obviously I don't want them to end up together. What they are doing is sick. And it's going to destroy them one way or another.
Anyway I want to see where the plot is going to go.

Ch. 1-8 (view spoiler)[So this a re-read for me. It's been years since I read this but I remember how emotionally this book took a toll on me. It's already starting and I can't help but feel for Lochan and Maya. They are in difficult positions and only young adults themselves left to essentially raise their siblings and run a household. Their mother is less than useless and is in fact a waste of air. I want to say they are all better off without her but at the same time they all need each other and any gov't interference will likely separate them all. Lochan really does have a legitimate disorder that I can't help but be sad no one is trying to help him with. And their brother Kit, ughhhh I want to throttle him. I get he's lashing out like teens do but damn he's just mean, disrespectful and beyond ungrateful. The way he talks to and about Lochan is beyond uncalled for. I can't really blame Lochan for attacking him. There's only so much pressure and stress a person can take and Lochan is so far beyond his limit. I think having to take care of his family is perhaps the one thing saving him at the moment mentally but he really needs help and guidance. Everyone just lets hum believe he's a freak and that there's something wrong with him without ever actually trying to help. My emotions...... (hide spoiler)]

Ch 16 (view spoiler)[Honesty while I’m starting to get disturbed (but also in love and heartbroken) I can’t help but be livid at their mother and teachers. Aside from one of Lochans teachers these kids have no one. They have essentially become a family raising kids it’s no wonder they feel they only have each other...... 😪😪😪

I’m an only child which I wonder if makes a difference for people reading this at all. I feel like I can look at this in a different light maybe, still wrong no question about it but it’s not like I have a sibling to be grossed out about if that makes sense. (hide spoiler)]

Finished (view spoiler)[I remembered Lochie killed himself but I wasn’t ready for the heartbreak and emotions. At the end of the day it kind of had to happen this way but damn if I’m not devastated. Aside from their relationship he was a great and smart kid with a promising future. His mental health and anxiety however was I think going to lead him this way eventually unfortunately. I was terrified Maya was going to really give up the kids and I’m so glad she didn’t. At the end of the day I did enjoy the book as taboo as it is. I can’t help but hate the system that allows any kids to love the way Maya and her siblings do. There are really some people who should never have kids and their mom is a prime example.
