Which myth was your favorite (and why?)

Which character was your favorite and/or least favorite?

How familiar were you with Norse Myths before you read this book. And if you were fairly familiar how would you compare this telling to others you may have read/seen/heard?

I read this one the moment it was published, and loved it. I hope anyone who gives this book a try enjoys it as well!

I been really excited to read this one since it came out. Excited to get to read it with the group.

Me, too! I was at the used bookstore, selling some old books and saw Norse Mythology on the shelf - one of their "brand new books" and I just couldn't resist blowing all my in-store credit on it!

I'm gonna start this tonight because I'm too excited to wait until tomorrow lol. Glad to be able to discuss it with the group :)

9% in just finished the "YGGDRASIL AND THE NINE WORLDS" section.

Enjoying it so far. I like the style and flow of the writing so far especially. First impression is that it seems like it will be informative without throwing too much at the reader at once.

I'm about halfway done now and I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed. I think I was expecting more of Gaiman in the book, but it seems more like a straight retelling of the Norse mythology legends. I know he did exhaustive research and I understand one has to be careful with a work like this - it's about the stories that create the mythology, so it's not like he can really update them - it feels like it could be a book by anyone, not necessarily Neil Gaiman. I guess because I'm such a big Gaiman fan I was "expecting" something more.

I'm still enjoying it and learning a lot, but I haven't been super excited to read (as I normally am with Gaiman books).

It's going to be another week or so before I get to this one. I'm still in catch up mode from all the flu nonsense. I've heard good things about this book though and am looking forward to the read.

Oh no :( I hope by catch up mode you mean you are feeling better! So far I’m finding it enjoyable. Excited to hear what you think when you get to it.

The book is a little different than I had thought. I do enjoy reading about old myths though. I watch Vikings and the part where they explain the gods and their ways makes so much more sense now!

I've been slacking on my reading this month (curse you depression!) but I've been feeling like binge reading so I'm going to try to finish this one tonight so I can post my thoughts. I will probably post a few things as I read as well.

I read this book last year as well as the other one (six of crows)

I loved the stories within it. Mythology has always been a weak point for me

My favorite? I’m not sure I could tell you there’s several I loved it

Favorite characters would have to be Loki and Odín. Nothing without them, most of the stories start by their actions

I knew some of these stories vaguely before. Some are mentioned in American Gods by Neil Gaiman and some books that touch barely Norse Mythology

I really loved the simple way that Neil Gaiman relates it prompt me to read one take after the other. Anyone think like that ?
