edit: this post was completed on February 13 but was misplaced into a separate discussion topic.
Good evening all!
We are now into our last two weeks of Twelfth Night and I am preparing for the Talk Back this evening. For those that have never been to Talk Back, we conduct them on most Tuesday evenings and have a discussion with members of the cast about the show following the performance. But let's get back to the discussion at hand.
TIPPING THE VELVET takes place in the 1890's. What if the story took place today? What would be the same and/or similar? What would be different?
Nan and Kitty both use clothing to portray a certain image, but Sarah Waters, like most authors, explains the clothing of many of her characters. How does our clothing enhance or show off our own identities? We may use things to identify ourselves, such as a police officer wearing his/her uniform, or it can be much more subtle, such as choosing a red shirt over a blue shirt. Look at what you are wearing now. Why did you chose that outfit? How do they reflect your personality?
