Robert Dallmann (robert_dallmann) Matthew 4:4 - "But he answered and said, It is written, MAN SHALL not LIVE BY bread alone, but by EVERY WORD that proceedeth out of the mouth OF GOD ."

Jesus says that we MUST LIVE BY EVERY WORD FROM GOD . What does this statement imply?

1) That we KNOW what these " WORDS " from God are.
2) That we NEED to LIVE by these " WORDS " from God.

So, what are these " WORDS " that Jesus is speaking of? What are the " WORDS FROM GOD "?

(Some people say this is NOT speaking of the Bible, what do you think?)

Eric Scott | 8 comments I have 2 objections to your initial post, Robert. As moderator, the first thing you did on the last two new topics you launched was to promote your materials.

Can we the solicit for material we feel in superior in substance and clarity, like our own books and websites, or is that not kosher on your pages?

Second, to be consistent with what you scold others for you need to stick with what the Bible says not not what it "implies".

Is Jesus saying that I must live by (as in do something... or as in draw my metabolic sustenance from?) each word (is rhemati a specific spoken command or just audible speech? subtle difference in Greek) from God's mouth (is that a physical mouth that forms words or can you describe for me what stamatos means here?)

A strict literal translation would allow me to do what I do without charge until such time as I hear a clear voice and know it's God and know what he said. I don't try to translate the Bible. But I work to interpret it. I interpret that what I take in (ingest, consume, ie bread) about God through the course of my life and as it digested within me it forms who I become, in the image or against the template of I already am, was, and will be forever.

Lord, you are the bread of life. Where else can we go to get such bread. I want more of you.

My response: First - I am NOT the moderator on this group.

Second - this is a "book" reading web site. It is not inappropriate to add links to your materials... as long as they are Christian.

If the moderator of this group forbids it, I won't add them.

My response: I QUOTED the Bible... it is YOU who are making IMPLICATIONS...

Matthew 4:4 - "But he answered and said, It is written, MAN SHALL not LIVE BY bread alone, but by EVERY WORD that proceedeth out of the mouth OF GOD ."

Eric Scott | 8 comments It's been a while since you signed up. Since I signed up recently, I still remember that in the instructions for using this site. And since you're not the moderator, I say go for it until you get asked to stop by the moderator, if there is one anymore.
If it goes without notice or consequence, I'll follow your lead. Thanks.
This is a very good and potentially very deep topic.

Yes, it is a deep topic. But simple in premise.

Jesus tells us to live by every Word from God... by implication, we must KNOW what those Words are.

If we don't know God's Words... how can we live by God's Words?

Eric Scott | 8 comments I still say we have to be careful in presuming we know what the Word of God is. It's more than scriptures, more than the Bible, more than law. Jesus said if you want to know the Father, look at me. I am the embodiment of the Father. My Father and I are ONE. That is the one God concept of the Jewish Shima. We live by getting to know Jesus Christ and the fellowship of his suffering and letting HIM live in us.
Jesus said, if you want to picture a great human model... look to John the Baptist who said, "Behold the lamb of God who takes on the sin of the entire world. FOLLOW HIM! I must decrease, that HE may increase."

My response: The "Word of God" may include MORE than the Bible...

...BUT it is NOT LESS than the Bible...
...It is NOT CONTRADICTORY to the Bible...
...anything that CLAIMS to be the Word of God MUST be tested against the Bible...

Acts 17:11 - Search the SCRIPTURES to validate the Word of God...

Wow, Robert. We are starting to sync... I think. We'll soon see. Love ya, Brother.

My response: That would be great; however, the fact remains that the Bible is the Word of God, and the ultimate authority in regards to all spiritual truth, while we are in this flesh.

I cannot tell you how many times people were allegedly "led by God" to VIOLATE His Word.
