Kaycee I really enjoyed the story that Suzanne LaFleur told in her novel Eight Keys. It was all about a 12 year old girl named Elise who struggles with starting the sixth grade. She battles her way through a year of bullying at school, and arguing with her best friend, Franklin. She also struggles with the loss of both of her parents when she was a little girl, but throughout the story she continues to find keys that unlock mysterious rooms in her barn. It turns out that the rooms were a big puzzle put together and left by her father before he passed. The story really hooks you from the beginning by explaining all of her hardships, and progressing with how Elise becomes a better person and figures out who she wants to be in life. She has so many loved ones that she learns to appreciate more than ever before. I would recommend the book to any young 4th or 5th grader that needs a refreshing, and inspiring book to read. I think it would really help anyone who's struggling with bullies, and also trying to find their friend group in school. The only thing I will say is that to some people it may be a little annoying how much the author covers the bullying situation, and how it took Elise literally the entire 200 pages to finally be happy. I can see it being a little bit of a downer, but overall great read and could definitely make some young kids happy to read it.
