The book was about a sorta near future earth where i think something happened to the sun and the days were lasting longer? I believe the setting was in California and this thirteen year old girl and her mom and little sister were scrounging for supplies? I think there was a generator involved in keeping their community going. At the end, it is implied that they will soon have to look for a new power source.

It *might* be 'The Age Of Miracles' by Karen Thompson Walker, in which the Earth's rotation is slowing down. I haven't actually read the book myself so it's a bit of a shot in the dark.
