Lucia (calwen) | 9 comments I agree, it reads differently thar previous books. And even though I had been worried about new POVs, I ended up loving them. They added so much more to the story. Pierce is amazing storyteller.

Between the time jump and the new characters it was definitely a little slower to get into than the other books but I think that helped build the suspense and expand the breadth of the story and its themes.

I also liked how it presented Darrow in a different light, not quite as heroic (or maybe likable is a better way to put it) as we are accustomed to. But I think that's a big part of what Pierce is continuing to explore here - how revolution, war and society building changes a person and the challenges they face are not necessarily simple choices between right and wrong.

Tara Bennett Since we are having to be introduced to 4 different points of view I think that is why it feels it starts out slower. I initially wasnt sure how I felt about the way this was written.

However once you start seeing things interweave it flows more quickly and becomes a more comfortable storyline. I truly enjoyed that that the story wasnt linear.
