Section 4

Liam Johnstone (hadaad) | 383 comments I'm not 100% sure if I liked this book. I thought the characters made a good start, and I liked Caleb's dad and the Red King all the way through, but some of the characters definitely didn't develop very much despite being well sketched in at the beginning.

I thought this book wasn't nearly as good as the last one. I didn't like Caleb nearly as much as Tara. I missed the Gargoyles too.

Caleb did grow on me though. The thing with his scars absorbing craft was pretty interesting, especially how it got applied at the end to stop Mal.

I thought the middle sections of this book was slow and I wasn't really super excited to pick the book up until this final part.

The temporary alliance with his father which quickly turned to treachery was interesting. I probably should have seen it coming as it was really obvious in hindsight.

Overall I'm not sure if I'd continue the series had I not already bought the first 5 or 6 books on sale. lol.

Most of my friends reviews of Full Fathom Five seem to all say "best one of the series so far".

I'd be up for doing a group read in April if others are interested.

Dara (cmdrdara) I felt very much the same, Rob. And yes, Full Fathom Five is great.

Liam Johnstone (hadaad) | 383 comments I would join in on a Full Fathom Five group read.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I finally finished. I too own Full Fathom Five so, I'll probably join in a group read because otherwise I may never pick it up!

This one was kind of a chore to pick up - I guess because I didn't really care about the characters or the situation a ton. I do like the world, and I liked some of the thoughts about sacrifice. I wish I had been invested more - I'm a fast reader but this book took me forever! =)

At the end of my book it had a chapter from book #4 in the series, which from the synopsis sounds like it is a prequel of this book featuring Caleb's dad.

I liked Caleb's power/scars and his use of that. It was no ash on a cigarette, but it was interesting.
