Found myself in the store over the weekend picking up less familiar wines just for the experience. Proud to say I also decanted! Interested to hear from others if reading this affects how they shop for and think about and consume wine.
I'm having dinner with my sister tonight in NYC, and I'm excited to see if there will be a sommelier at the restaurant. Just last night I read the section in the book discussing whether sommeliers really are better at detecting certain smells, or whether they are mostly just conditioned to use certain terms and descriptors. I'll definitely listen up when it comes to wine recommendations.

Mary, I've done the same (though I didn't decant)!

Has anyone else realized that they're suddenly spending more (and drinking more) wine since starting this book? Oh my. It's never had a separate line item on my grocery budget before.Mike, when are we supposed to finish the book?
I am planning on posting the first discussion question (or adding to what's already here) this coming week. The book will wrap up by the CSE Annual Meeting and we hope to have a little wine outing as part of the dinner conversations event in New Orleans.
Hi! Just heard The Splendid Table episode featuring this author and (even though it's a year old) it was great to hear the voice behind Cord Dork. Also, I recently attended a wine tasting and tried to put my knowledge to use...luckily there were no rocks to lick.

I'll be your moderator for this book, which I got a huge kick out of after reading the Emperor of All Maladies (which I liked a lot, but boy was it dense!). This was a perfect change of pace. I'll post our first discussion point in a couple of weeks, but if you are so moved feel free to pre-empt that! I'll be going back over the book in the meantime. Hope you like it!
