20th Century Ghosts question

"My Father's Mask" isn't one of my favorite stories in this collection, but it is one of the most memorable. I'm not sure exactly what to make of it beyond it being a slice of creepy, evocative surrealism. I'd love to hear from anyone who has thoughts about it.
