I'd appreciate it if all of you would invite your friends & fellow GR travelers to join this group. I've noticed that it takes a LOT of people in a group to get & keep good conversations going.
I don't have any suggestions. I like the group. From the Chaos thread: it's difficult to set a shorter time limit for the books because everyone has different amounts of time they can fit in to read. I don't know how to remedy that. Maybe ask those who are participating how long they think they need?
I agree that it's hard to figure. Many of Zelazny's books are hard to find too, so we don't want to rush through them too quickly. I like the format we have just fine; I just felt like we weren't doing much discussing for the last couple of Amber books. When I looked, I saw that we had, we just did it awhile back. We that are new Amber junkies couldn't wait to get into these.
OK, thanks to both of you. Some Zelazny books are readily available, but others are very tough to find. If anyone needs a particular book, before you buy it, let me know. In collecting them over the years for myself & kids, I've wound up with some duplicates. They're used, but I'm happy to send them out to group members.
Hello. I'm new to GR, and by extension, this group. I am always on the lookout for new authors who show promise. Specifically, authors in complete command of their craft (a rare ability), don't show off, don't spend pages describing the color of a tree, don't get overly cute with plotting, embrace the anti-hero, you get the picture; something hard to find. My "favorite" authors, lacking a better description, are Zelazny, Jack Vance, Stan Lem, Donald Westlake, etc. I say "etc." as most will note a common thread. Since all are dead or no longer writing, suggestions are welcome.
Welcome, Eric. You came to the right place. You certainly mentioned some of my favorite authors. This topic is more for suggestions about the group, but you might find what you're looking for in the "Zelazny-ish Reads" or "General BS & Other Books" topics. Here are the links:

Glad to have you with us!
Here's a great explanation of the current holdup in the Google Book fiasco. The part I find most interesting is that our government is actually working FOR the people. What a concept!http://www.sfwa.org/2010/02/doj-weigh...
Google Buzz looks pretty cool. If you want to add me, go to:http://www.google.com/profiles/jimmac...
I don't know if it will work out, but it might be a Facebook killer for me.
