This is a book about what happens after they escape the glade. After they get out of the maze they are found by a team of rebels that are fighting WICKED. With in this book they are going through the desert and finding out the everyone is basically gone and almost all of the cities are destroyed and broken down. Thomas and his friends are running through the desert from WICKED because they want to capture them and experiment to find a cure from them. While they are running from WICKED, they are running into old abandoned buildings and are finding people with the disease that are zombie like. All these diseased people want to do is bite them and give them the disease. It is very challenging from them to have to run from two different kinds of people. While they are on this journey to defeat WICKED, the rebels introduce them to more gladers. Gladers are more people from different mazes. They are all quite scared and not sure what to do, because they don’t know what happened to their families. At the end of the book, one of Thomas’s friends/girlfriend betrays everyone and calls WICKED and tells them where they are. WICKED comes and starts taking the immunes. Thomas and some of his buddies escape.

I thought this book was kind of interesting, because it was kind of slow and didn’t have a lot of action, just a continuation of the last book. I liked how they were able to protect themselves until the very end. They would have still been able to protect themselves and try to find out why Wicked wanted them if they weren’t betrayed. I thought it stunk that they got betrayed. I don’t like how mean and selfish the WICKED people are. They are using the immunes and trying to run their lives without giving them any choices. The immunes don’t even know why. They just know that people are trying to force them to live in places and not with their families and they don’t tell them why.

I also don’t like how WICKED caused the disease to spread. They protect themselves while everybody else is getting sick. You are either for WICKED or against them. If you’re against them they will kill you.

As you finish reading the book you really want Thomas and his friends to be able to destroy WICKED.
