My mom recommended I read this book and I was actually really surprised by how much I liked it. It’s about a little Jewish girl, Sarah, who gets arrested with her parents during the Holocaust and she attempts to save her little brother by hiding him in a cupboard. At the same time, an alternate plot follows a woman named Julia who becomes interested in Sarah’s story and tries to connect with her. I will say that this book is super sad, but the way the whole story connects is really awesome. The best part of the story is when both plots align because it brings things together in a way I didn’t expect it to. I also didn’t expect to like this book just because I normally don’t love to read stories about the Holocaust. I am not typically interested in historical fiction but this book made me want to consider more of these kinds of stories. It is a hard, emotional read, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone. This book was actually made into a movie a couple years ago, and I decided to watch it right after finishing the book. The movie is fairly different, but I recommend reading the book and then watching the movie because I found that I appreciated the book even more after seeing the story acted out!
