That category is nonselectable on the back end of KDP. Which means authors/publishers can't currently add their titles to it.
Hi Warren! I'm not an author nor a publisher myself, but your post made me remember a 2013 article by author A.G. Riddle, where he comments on how to handle Amazon sub categories not accessable in KDP when he self-published his book 'The Atlantis Gene'. "You cannot put your book in the techno-thriller category via the KDP control panel. You have to email KDP support, and they will put your book in there." https://www.kirkusreviews.com/indie-r...
Even though it is now 2018, perhaps Amazon's LGBT sci-fi category could be accessed the same way by authors and publishers who have books that would fit the category? As a reader, I use Amazon's category filters, subgenre best-seller and new-releases lists a lot when I search for what to read next.

The following keywords will get you into the appropriate categories: lgbt, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender.

I think it might be new, because there is some random stuff on there, and books I would have expected to see aren't there. But it is probably worth keeping an eye on.
