It actually didn't bother me. I can block the gory side of things out in books better than watching it on TV.

The murder scenes were necessary to illustrate a diabolical killer and part of the police procedural. I’m not sure the details of the trauma center scenes were a necessity.

Gruesome and gritty doesn't bother me. It makes it all the more realistic.

I read a lot of suspense books so it wasn't too gruesome for me as it is necessary for the book. Bit I could have done without the hospital scenes but I guess it made sense seeing as Catherine was a doctor so the unsub would be there too.
