A rather harrowing commentary on the life of Mary Shelley. Covers the position of women in society at that time. Not a lot of text; maybe a few paragraphs per page, but each double page illustrated with black and white drawings. Not suitable for reading aloud because of the importance of the illustrations. Beautifully and sympathetically written. Touches on underage sex, infidelity, death of babies and husbands, suicide, being disowned by family, betrayal by family. In spite of all this, Mary continued to love Shelley, and it was with his encouragement that she wrote and published.
