We have a little more than a month to read all four books again, so we should get cracking. Skimming is FINE if you're a slow reader. The faster ones will fill you in if you missed anything ;) (probably)

This is the discussion board for rereading the first book. If you already have, you can still comment and talk about it with us. Read however fast or slow you want, but we want to get through these books so that we will be able to enjoy the last one amap. If you notice anything in the book that you missed before, comment below and talk about it, that's what this topic is for! :)

Once we're finished, we'll move on to the second book. And hopefully we'll all be done by the time one of us gets the grand finale :(

hey guys so I haven't had time to re-read the series plus I just got done rereading them. so I won't be doing this after all. However I wanted to plan out a day where we could have a celebratory part and talk about the new book after we've all read it. Any day suggestions?

It will depend on when I'll get the book - I preordered it, but I won't get it on the release date - probably a few days later. But I'll rush and see, when you're ready. And I really don't know if I'll will read the end first...I don't know if I'll have the energy for even waiting longer...but of course, we shouldn't start discussing before everyone has read it, unless it's so much important that we have to talk about it (:

Apparently, this is an edition that is already out since 8th May!
But don't ask me why this can be delievered from Germany- here's the official release date the 15th May, too. I wonder I should order it now from amazon.com. Or what do you think?

You don't know Artie? OMG, Twicebaked, did you hear that? Well, without you I would also not realize him. But Luna, my fanfic was a kind of walk-through of all important things and people...you didn't read it completely, right?
But of course, doing your work is important...perhaps this a good way for not always thinking about the Penderwicks and not getting mad.

He doesn't really come into it, I've kind of made him more than he actually is lol. I just imagine him like Anthony Perkins <3 <3 adorable. Wow, that's so sad that you don't remember him lolol

I really think about asking in a book store and then cancelling my order - I preordered it months ago and then this ...

I preordered it a little bit before Christmas (actually, somebody else did...it was one of my Xmas presents lolol) - now I'm worried that I'm not getting it Tuesday. Oh noooo.

Um Luna just watch Friendly Persuasion or Psycho, he's such a kid aww <3 maybe if we ever meet in person I can show you one of those movies lolol

I preordered it in February, but I will go as soon as possible in a book store because Amazon has the date of SENDING the 23th May.

Ok, of course! I still don't know how to hide spoilers, but perhaps I'll hide my review completely if I'm going to tell my opinion.
So I won't tell you anything until you all have read it. I'm so much exited!! And it's quite odd to say that I would like it, but I'll always be a Skeffrey shipper. It's just that I could recycle some ideas which I could really like and then it would be different to the way I have seen the Penderwicks in all my life. I always waited that Jeffrey would decide between Jane and Skye, and at Point Mouette, I was hoping that this Dominic could turn out to be nice to Jane, and Skye and Jeffrey would get together. The thing with Batty - it wouldn't be Little Women-Penderwicks anymore, but a different story I always tried to avoid.

well I put together some proofs, but I still haven't posted it yet. I'll try to get around to that tmrw - it was kind of hard to do it today because I was trying to finish the third book. And someone borrowed the fourth before I started reading the series, so now I'm just waiting to get that back and then hopefully I can do a full report.

Funnily, in beginning of the year I collected proof for Jane and Jeffrey. I still have the impression that Jane is a bit in like with Jeffrey, but she is the only sister who really tries to persuade Skye to accept Jeffrey at last. It reminds me a bit of her play "Sister and sacrifice". And I hope her tries are successful and rewarded with getting also someone Jane deserves ( since Nick is out, it could be Artie or also Pearson or someone else).

oh NO, don't go back to Jane and Jeffrey ewwww no gross! Jane's so consumed with what love even IS that she doesn't have time for Jeffrey. She's never shown interest at all - only Batty (when she was FOUR and that was it) and of course Skye did say she missed him, but it's not really like her to admit to loving him (but just wait till book five - she'll get around to it).

I agreeee jane and jeffrey r cute as FRIENDS but nothing more, and batty was like 4 when she said that tiny thing bout how he could marry her. OMG GUYS I NEVER EVEN REALIZED HOW MUCH I LOVE MR PENDERWICK CAN WE PLZ APPRECIATE HOW CHILL HE IS??!! rosaleind comes back w a bonk on her head, he doesnt even care. he doesnt even caree when the girls basically kept jeffrey without telling his mom and omg i love him.

-when he tries teaching skye the watlz <3
-when HE TELLS HER ITS NOT HER FAULT (that mrs t took him to pencey to have an interview) *fanning self i was about to cry of happiness rereading that part
-when mr penderwick asks "oh my daughters arent driving you crazy yet?" and jeffrey's like "nope, well except for skye maybe." and she punches him like omgg <333

Yes, of course there is Skeffrey in book 1! I remember it. But actually, I was a little bit to much thinking about Jane as Amy and therefore as an possible match for Jeffrey. Both are getting along very well in the beginning, and in the series, he defends Jane.
I thought of the fact that Jane really wanted to visit Jeffrey in Boston (book 2), but then gave Skye the possibility. She wrote a little text that Jeffrey would tell Skye that he would actually prefer seeing Jane. And then she says she wished someone would say such to her.
Summing up, Jane likes Jeffrey, but who wouldn't? In the Penderwicks in spring, Skye says that Jeffrey should have fallen in love with Jane (because she's annoyed about Jeffrey's sent love songs, and Jane really would like romantic tokens.). But Jane says that Jeffrey always loved Skye.
So: Jane is a Skeffrey shipper!
Clear enough now?

YES! So clear aww that makes me so happy (but also sad if this finale doesn't do Skeffrey) << don't tell us, Verena. Not like you would, but I feel like I have to remind you just in case haha

I'm almost as eager again to discuss it with you. I had now a day to read it already (it's quite a advantage to "live in the future" - it's evening here!)
Of course, if you want to comment on something when reading, we could do this with private postmails, but it's hard without spoiling the ends.
Just one fun fact - I don't consider it as a spoiler anymore! - It's not said where in Germany Jeffrey was, but there could be a hint for a certain city I actually know and it would fit for him perfectly. I just imagine him walking there - a shame I never met him there! (:

And indeed, I honestly guessed it would be this place. Of course, this isn't important, but really interesting for me at least. Because it's the first time I'm reading Penderwicks in English, it's not so easy for me, but I guess it works to understand essentials.

Aw I hope reading it in English is better (view spoiler)[and not as enlightening! haha just kidding. Maybe the German one will be like the German LW - a perfect ending. (hide spoiler)]

I'm afraid that the German one won't be have a different ending-. Nope, but as a fanfic I have at least now written a ending for Jo and Laurie, if Beth survived and tried to matchmake them. If you are interested, I can send you the Wattpad link or better I could copy and postmail it since it's only one chapter.
The German edition will probably be released next year, and perhaps it's then not so shadowy for me , but actually I don't want it as a clear read. Perhaps they'll waiting to create a suitable cover and description - perhaps with enough spoilers.

I'm very sorry for you. I have known it already a bit longer since the dumb German Preview on Amazon.de had the end. I was fighting with myself if I should tell you, but I didn't want to write it as a spoiler. I have asked previously 3 or 4 reviewers that they should tell me, because I was getting crazy, but no one ever answered me. I know what a torture it was and these three years seem to have been ridiculous.
I'm very sad. If you look then in the complete book you'll see it entirely. You could also look inside the preview on amazon.de. The access is everywhere the same. It's different to the amazon.com preview

awwwwwww that website has a even shorter preview that the other one :(( maybe they switched it

I would agree. I can't imagine it otherwise. There were so many odds and mistakes. (Churchie in Hawaii is for me one of the proofs!)

ik it read kind of like a fan fic only more believable because it's totally Birdsall's styling unfortunately.

Luna, read it anyway. ik I told you this on my review but still. I'm telling you as a friend that you should go ahead and read it anyway because my sisters liked Baffrey after they read it bc they already knew what was going to happen going into it. I didn't know what was going to happen, so I hated it. But I want you to know beforehand so that you will enjoy it unlike me. Even if it means losing one more Skeffrey shipper. :( I'm so so sad you guys. I cried when he saw Batty. I cried when Wesley left. I cried when it was over.

That is what Birdsall wanted. It was easy, especially if most fans didn't reread it and believed everything. It sounds odd, but she wanted perhaps that Skye is married and a certain relationship is forgotten. Mrs. Tifton just talks about Jane and Skye crushing on Jeffrey, but Jeffrey's interest in Skye was never a topic. If Skye would be only engaged, there could fans write an own chapter easily with Skye deciding against Dusek. Even Jane has still has a chance to get Jeffrey, but Not Skye.
Or we think about the fact that Skye agreed only because she didn't have to organize the wedding and Dusek urged her to accept. Perhaps she'll regret it and gets divorced?

Yeah Verena, I didn't like how there was no conversation between Skye and Jeffery, no resolve like they barely said two words to each other, (those two words were so great though), but there wasn't any conversation. And also if Skye was going to marry someone why did Jeanne Birdsall have to make it a new person?

Because no one else was fitting! But she shouldn't jump. And she should have introduced Dusek more. I hardly know his character or his looks - and I couldn't see why he should be more special than Jeffrey. My second hope was Nick. And it was the same, boring solution to make him marry a random Laura.
Just writing "Skye fell in love with a scientist and lived happily ever after ..." This can write each primary school Student...

That's what made me the most mad - the fact that she made a whole new character to get rid of Skye. That's what it felt like, anyway. And that he had no character when Jeffrey had so much. At least give us a reason for liking the guy! I don't want Skye marrying someone who might be really boring or lovesick (ew pg 279 was my worst nightmare). And it about made me cry when Jeffrey's like what did he say? and Skye won't tell him :(

Why I thought Skeffery would for sure happen was because I kept going back to the third book where Skye and Jeffery are waiting to see the moose and Jeffery is like "do you ever think that we'll get married someday?" AGh so good...well guess it didn't happen :',(

Actually, it was impossible to relate to Dusek and when I tried to imagine him, I could just see his character like Jeffrey and that made me sad because Skye would need someone calm and bright and kind and loving children and that was all Jeffrey. I tried to write some more chapters for the book, but I felt like a traitor because Skye should someone like Jeffrey and why is a marine biologist better than a musician? They have both their polar opposite activity and Birdsall really didn't work it out. Skye couldn't be recognized as a tomboy, it was rather Jane who seemed to be one.
Actually, this new book fits not to Little Women for me, but to one of my fairy tale retellings of Little Women. I've made some maker pictures for it and perhaps I'll put it on Pinterest and the link to it. For me: Rosalind is Meg, Jane is Jo, Batty is Beth and Skye is Amy. Yup, Skye is more a spoilt, goldilocks princess, with her fake veil and her blushes, and she is just saying one time that she'll keep a secret like a Black Hole, but there was nothing like being an astrophysician and she never cleared her sorrows with Jeffrey or Iantha, but just coming and marrying because urged is Not satisfying.

Verena - everything you just said. I would say more but I agree, those are all my thoughts too, EXACTLY! but I don't want to write a huge comment. :) But rlly yes. And Juny - YES! I kept thinking about how Skye says she'll wait for him when he's really upset abt Alec (ah my heart) and Skye's like I'm here for you, we're all here for you, we'll always be here for you. Freaking "always"? You're getting married and moving away, that's not always. ugggh.

like since freaking when has Skye become so lovesick that's disgusting and then she *blushes* and it's way more Rosalind's way of doing things. Also can I point out that Skye and Dusek have been together for three freaking years (a measly three when you consider how long she and Jeffrey have been "together") and um guys why do you miss each other for an hour when you've been hanging out together for who knows how many hours and you're just going to do that more when you get bleeped. I can't say that word, Skeffrey for life guys idc what other people say about stupid Baffrey.

You know the Despicable Me 3 reminds me of the Penderwicks in some ways. The oldest girl, Margo, seems a lot like Rosalind, the blonde girl is like Skye, the smallest girl is like Batty and then the secret agent lady Gru marries even has red hair like Iantha. Ha, though that's where the similarities end I think.
