jo | 28 comments The whiting awards are given to young upstarters and experimenters. here is a nice short npr piece on this year's winners and what the awards do. lambda on facebook announced proudly that 7 out of the 10 are queer.

here are the 2018 winners:

Anne Boyer is a poet and has an upcoming memoir, called The Undying.

Patty Yumi Cottrell, whose debut novel is Sorry to Disrupt the Peace

playwrights Nathan Alan Davis, Hansol Jung, and Antoinette Nwandu.

poets Rickey Laurentiis and Tommy Pico.

novelist Brontez Purnell author of Since I Laid My Burden Down.

novelist Weike Wang.

nonfiction writer Esmé Weijun Wang, author of The Collected Schizophrenias.
