Long Live Heinlein discussion

Ok so many years ago I read many Heinlein novels and one of them (at least I'm sure it was by him) was about a single space ship on a journey to look at habitable planets. They came across various difficulties on the planets they visited including some nasty wild life. The only incident I can remember is when their pet pig got snaffled and eaten by a predator.
I did however much enjoy reading the book and would like to rediscover it.
Anyone recognise it?

Hum ... That is a little vague. It could be Time for the Stars or Starman Jones.

There is a pig in Time for the Stars. Reading it right now for the first time in decades. It's far from one of my favorites, but it was worth one last time through.
