Celaena seems so nonchalant about helping Yrene. Why do you think she did it?

Celaena has a kind heart and a soft spot for the less fortunate. Especially women. She saw something special in Yrene and wanted to help her get out of where she was. I think she did it because she could.

It feels to me like she is exploring a new side of herself. She’s finding out that she can do more then kill people, she can also help others.

Celaena had no plans to initially help Yrene. Helping her escape those would-be rapists was out of boredom; beyond that, Yrene’s story started the continuance of that awakening which began with freeing those slaves held by the pirate lord. There’s something in her that has empathy for those ruined by the King of Adalar. Celaena is starting to develop her own sense of right and wrong.
Jonetta I completely agree with what you've said. She wasn't going to help Yrene but then when she went to find some fight she came across the men trying to harm Yrene. She was bored so she interfered but then made a connection to Yrene she didn't intend. I'm glad for it because it made Celaena a better and more rounded character than she came across in the first novella.

"Even though she originally did it out of selfish motives, I think she learned from the experience and became a little less self absorbed, which helped when she was with the Silent Assassins. This aspect of her character development is what makes me willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and like her a bit more than I would have otherwise.
