The atmosphere of this books is so weird. It feels like a combination of 80s and 90s teen dramas/comedies and 50s and 60s coming of age stories.
I keep picturing Stand By Me, the Sandlot, and Heathers.

Agreed! It supposedly takes place in the 70s, but I had a mix of atmospheres envisioned as well.
