That's a very deep question Jonetta and as it is only 7.15 am here in Sydney and I am only half way through my first coffee I will leave it for later:)

Maybe it's safer? If you don't think the other person feels the same way then there's no need to more closely examine your own feelings about them...because if you did then you'd have to face the possibility that your feelings aren't reciprocated...and that would hurt. But if you stick to the "we're just friends" approach then no harm, no foul.
You make a great point, Veronica. Underneath all that is fear of rejection so why go there. It takes a lot of self confidence to look at those feelings honestly.

Plus there is so much going against Frank and Sarah already. She has put herself into the old widowed category. Filed away the identity she had before she met Tom into some rusty bucket because she couldn't see herself with anyone but Tom since he came into her life. So for her to realize she is still desirable is a big step in her moving on from Tom.
