What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

This is a really good story - the guy is still alive I think and there was talk of a film. It's a thick paperback (I think the cover was blue and red) and I can't remember it's name!!!!!

How many years ago did you read this?
Was it an adventure, historical fiction, political thriller, etc?
