The Lucky One discussion

Many marines die everyday protecting the United States. Logan Thibault, the main character in The Lucky One, is not one of those people. The Lucky One is a romance novel written by Nicholas Sparks. In Iraq, he was extremely close to facing death, but did not because of one picture of a young woman. Once he returns back to the states in 2011, he is destined to find the woman in the picture. With the help of many, he finds the woman in Hampton, North Carolina. Throughout the book, Logan never gives up. Whether it is finding Beth or in Iraq. Beth is a single mom who manages a dog kennel. Logan has to decide whether to tell Beth about the picture that was once her brother’s or keep it a secret. In fear that Logan and Beth’s relationship will end, Logan does not tell her about the picture. Logan makes the mistake in telling Beth’s son, Ben, about the picture. This causes Beth to discover the picture. Beth’s ex-husband is a psycho town cop that creates conflict with Logan, because he still has hope for their broken marriage. Both Logan and Beth go with their heart in this book. Although Beth is upset that he kept the picture from her, she still choses to stay and love Logan. Flashbacks are present when Sparks talks about Logan in the war. During these flashbacks, he also uses a lot of imagery to explain what happens in Iraq. He portrays the war extremely well and in a unique way. The love story along with the action of the war, draws readers into the text. The Lucky One receives a 5-star rating because of it’s excellent plot and story line.
