Jim | 12 comments I'd like to propose Steven Pinker's book Enlightenment Now for the May book. I've read another Pinker book and I think his new one will be a good UU-type book, focusing on humanism and reason and science and progressive thinking in general. Enlightenment Now The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress by Steven Pinker

Suzanne (suzannekm) | 76 comments I cannot argue with your pitch.
Is it fun?

message 3: by Jim (new)

Jim | 12 comments Sure! I haven't read it yet, so I'll say that it is "great and wonderful fun, a thrilling good time." Pinker's an intellectual and he's going to reference just about everything we know / should know, so it'll be good intellectual fun. On the cover of the book, theres' a quote from Bill Gates. He calls it "my new favorite book of all time."

Joe Lozano | 6 comments I agree. I have read his "Blank Slate" and thought it fascinating so I bet this one will be too.

Sorry, I said I was going to post but haven't. But yes, Enlightenment Now for May.

Joe Lozano | 6 comments Okey doke, I already ordered it!

message 7: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (suzannekm) | 76 comments Finished it recently. Having read it helps me understand the issues I read about when people argue about humanism, progress, and hope or despair. Having Pinker in my head now helps me think about the possibility of hope.
