lady amalthea ‧₊˚.⟢ (190511) North Carolina - a beautiful state of forests, farmland, rolling hills, small cities. Until it wasn’t.

It all started with a child. One boy, 6 or 7 years old. He and his grandfather were painting a boat, a homemade wooden boat. The paint was one of the newer, stronger inventions, made to last 100 years, even on the water. It had special, unknown chemicals. This was the test run, to see if it would last as long as they predicted. The boy, the unknowing, innocent little boy, knocked three buckets of the new paint into the river. The river that wound through the whole state, bringing the chemicals and toxicity with it. Plants died. Animals died. Humans fell ill. No one knew what caused this sudden plague, this intoxication of all the water in the state.

The military moved in, on strict orders to not drink any water. They were supposed to dam the river. To stop the water from flowing across the entire country. They moved kids out first, ages 1-18. It took exactly 28 trailers.

Once the kids were safely in a camp in California, the military turned back around for the adults. They were too slow. The water moved faster, and those without knowledge of the fatal supply died. It rained non-stop for two days, and flooded the state. Anyone in mere contact with the water died. Any adults left were finished off by animals with stronger immune systems, for the poisoned water turned them rabid. By the time the military got back, all that was left was bodies.

The remaining kids, over a million, live here, in this camp designated for them, called Rainbow Creek.
