Katie sat at a table, eating happily. She was grateful to be away from Cam for a while. His clumsiness was awful. She threw a goldfish in the air, trying to catch it with her mouth.
Maria tugged on Teddy's hand. "C'mon," she said through a mouthful of the toast she'd stuffed in her mouth. She was practically starving, since she'd missed dinner last night while practicing gymnastics in the forest. Teddy grumbled something incoherently, but followed her. They sat down side by side at the corner table they'd sat at since the first day here. Usually they were alone, but today another girl was sitting there. "Hey," Maria said as she swallowed her toast. Teddy gulped down some milk and stared at the girl.
“Hi!” She said brightly, scooting over closer. “Who are you guys?” She threw another cracker in the air and, this time, caught it. “Yes!”
Maria laughed. "I'm Maria, this is my brother Teddy." She put an arm around his shoulder, and shook him. "Introduce yourself," she said with a grin. He continued to stare at the girl, then finally glanced away. "I'm Teddy," he said with large eyes.
“Hi Teddy,” she said, fascinated by his huge kid eyes. “And hi Maria! It’s nice to have some friends other than my totally weird siblings.” She rolled her eyes. “I’m Katie!” She stuck out her hand.
Maria shook Katie's hand. She leaned in and whispered, "this boy here," she ruffled Teddy's hair, "is a TOTAL weirdo, it's nice to talk to other people." She paused to take a bite of apple. "It's like he's my shadow. Of course, that's not a bad thing." She added at Teddy's hurt expression. "He's a GOOD weirdo, not a bad weirdo. There's a difference." She mimed horns, then wings. "He's a little angel."
Teddy laughed. "If I'm the angel, she's the devil," he said, snickering. He shoved a spoonful of mac 'n cheese into his mouth, and swallowed it whole. "Once, she was climbing a tree in the forest, and she got to the very, VERY top. But since it was so tiny up there, she fell off and broke her leg. Since it's not allowed to climb trees, she didn't tell anyone though. Instead, she set her own bone and put it in a cast herself." He glanced up at Katie. "Isn't she AWESOME?"
Katie laughed, and then pretended to be amazed, and she was. “Absolutely. You must have an amazing sister. My brother, Cameron, just trips over everything. And anything you say to Maddie is an insult.” She grabbed another goldfish and studied it. “This smile is pretty creepy,” she noticed.
Maria glanced at the goldfish. "Eat it, then. Kill it." She stole one of Katie's goldfish, and snapped it in half. She gave Teddy the bigger half and ate the head herself. Then, turning to Teddy, she made a monster face. "I'm a SCARY MONSTERRRRRRRRRRRR GRRRRRR!!!"
Teddy laughed in delight. "I'm a good sibling, though. I'm really nice and stuff. Right?" He said, turning to Maria. She pretended to look guilty. "Yes, yes, of course. The perfect sibling." Teddy looked offended, and pinched her. They both laughed.
Maria's smile grew. She smirked. "Of course. But, as Teddy's older sister and illegal guardian, I opt him out." She patted him on the shoulder. He looked at her with a confused expression. "Big kid stuff," she said. "Now....before we begin, you'd better note that I NEVER refuse a dare."
"Sure." Maria thought for a moment, then whispered something confidentially into Teddy's ear. His eyes grew wider. She glanced at Katie, and explained, "Since he's not participating, I'm letting him help with the dares. First up is...." They whispered together for another minute. "....Jump onto the table, run across the tops of tables, kick a few peoples lunches, then yell to the cafeteria supervisor the lyrics to "Someone to love" by Queen."
Katie stood up quickly. She took a deep breath and jumped up onto their table. She jumped to the table closest to them and kicked a kid’s lunch off the table. She stuck her tongue out at him and moved to the next table. Katie saw Cameron across the room and abandoned ship, running full on across the tables to the other side of the cafeteria. She kicked Cameron’s whole lunch in his face. “Ha!” She yelled. His expression was exasperated. She laughed and stuck out her tongue again. She slid off the table and ran to the shocked supervisor in the corner. “Ooh, each morning I get up I die a little, Can barely stand on my feet, Take a look in the mirror and cry, Lord what you're doing to me yeah, yeah!” She sang, which was pretty much equivalent to yelling for her.
Maria burst out laughing. "You've got guts!" She yelled across the room. The supervisor was still standing completely still. Maria knew this was probably the only chance she had. She stood up, picker up her burger, aimed, and threw it. It hit it's mark perfectly: the supervisors face. "Bulls eye!" Maria yelled, snickering. Next to her Teddy was laughing. "Okay, okay, that was PERFECTION. Katie!" She called. "We should probably escape before we're punished." With that, she grabbed Teddy's hand, ran to the window, and leaped straight through. Glass shards stuck to her fingers, but luckily, she'd absorbed most of the impact, so Teddy was perfectly fine. She landed running, already heading toward the forest. Without looking behind her, she yelled again. "Katie!"
Katie ran after Maria, laughing out loud when she jumped through the window. They were just outside the brick cafeteria now, and Katie was laughing uncontrollably. “That,” She said, panting, “was AWESOME!”
"YES!" Maria burst out laughing again, clutching her chest dramatically. Teddy laughed at them. "You two are REALLY dumb, but kind of amazing." This set off another round of laughter, which was quieted when Maria said, "Okay, well, now YOU get to dare me to do something." She picked a shard of glass out of her hand, and dropped it on the grass. Digging through her backpack, she found her emergency kit, and took out the tweezers and bandages. As they walked, she picked out glass from her arms, and wrapped her arm with the bandages.
“Um,” she said, thinking for a while. “Run back through that window, grab three pies, throw them all at Cam. All while yodeling.”
Maria stopped, and her smile grew. "Okay..." She turned, and sprinted back toward the window. "YODELOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHOFISEOFWOEFJOIJSEOIFJEOIJFIOJEIFIJ *yodeling noises*" She leaped through the window and back into the cafeteria, where the supervisor was trying to get some order back. Still yodeling, Maria leaped over the tables, and stole three pies from the cook. Without looking back, she ran to Cameron, then threw the pies at him, one at a time. Laughing at his shocked expression, she ran back toward the window and back flipped back onto the grass. Turning to Katie, she crossed her arms smugly.
“Impressive,” She said, nodding in approval before she broke out laughing. “Has anyone . . . ever told you . . . how beautiful your yodeling is??
Maria glared at Katie and attempted to look offended, but failed. "Of course. I took yodeling classes when I was a child, and I was a prodigy." She pointed at herself. "I was magnificent! Maria Thomas, the amazing child yodeler! I was a star.... but alas, 'twas not meant to be...." Dramatically, Maria stared into the distance, as if though reminiscing on those good old days.
“Wait . . . you actually did?!”she laughed even harder. “Oh,” she suddenly remembered, “I need to see Cam’s face!”she ran back to the shattered window and peeked in. He was looking somber, mopping up the pies. She laughed again.
Maria followed Katie and peeked over her shoulder. She hadn't ever officially met Cameron, but she couldn't help but feel immense satisfaction at his expression. She burst out laughing, then fell back onto the grass when his eyes found the two of them. "Okay, okay," Maria said through her laughter. "We're geniuses, absolute geniuses." She stood up, barely flinching when she felt extra shards of glass digging into her skin. "Urgh." She muttered. "Where do you want to go? We should probably steer clear of people for today while they burn their anger out."
"I know!" Maria started laughing. ((But really, where should they go? Since we're not in the cafeteria anymore))
((HEEEEELP HOW DO I SEND A GROUP MESSAGE))“Okay, so I think the supervisor will lend us some pies, because Katie threw pies at him too so he wants to see us get revenge,” he said, cutting right to the chase.
“Over there,” He said immediately. He pointed to the far side of the cafeteria next to a window covered in plywood.
((What is the prank exactly?))"Perfect." He looked around and saw some lunch ladies smiling evilly. They must be mad about the chaos they cause too.
The lunch ladies opened there cabinet like they were waiting for them, "We'd be honored." One of them said. James laughed.
“Yessss,” he whispered, grabbing the pies greedily and stuffing them up the back of his shirt so he could approach his sister anonymously.
