Jamie walked into the classroom, grateful he'd come early. There was hardly anyone there, so he'd be able to find a spot. He headed toward the corner desk, where he sat as often as possible. With a sigh, he dropped his binder on the desk.
Jamie sat down on his chair, then leaned back. For a moment, he closed his eyes, but he blinked them open. There was someone else in the room. He opened his binder and searched for his homework. Algebra. He sighed.
Jamie looked up. He felt someones eyes on him. He blinked in surprise, there was someone he didn't recognize. Perhaps she had switched classes? He looked back down at his homework, and hid his blush behind a yawn. She was pretty.
She looked at him, surprised that she hadn't noticed him before, but then, she didn't really care much.
Jamie jotted down the answer to a few algebra problems, then glanced up. The girl was still looking at him. He sighed. Probably only because he was the only other living thing in the classroom at the moment. He turned his paper over and doodled a dragon.
Astrid blushed when he saw her looking and turned back to her papers. On these were lyrics to songs that she liked to sing.
Jamie fanned himself with a hand. It was hot in here. The girl's cheeks had turned pink, so she probably agreed. He stood up and opened the window, sighing in pleasure at the wind that blew inside.
Astrid was surprised that the teacher had not arrived soon, maybe this class was cancelled and she didn't know about it.
Where in the world was the teacher? Jamie glanced down at the schedule, then swore. They'd moved the class outside because of the good weather. He glanced at the girl. Awkwardly, he said, "erm, they moved the class outside because of the weather." He internally cringed, then headed toward the door, binder under one arm.
Jamie sighed as he imagined the scoldings they'd get. The weather WAS very beautiful, though. He almost smiled as the sunshine warmed his hair. He and the girl searched for several minutes, till they saw the class seated on the grass. Jamie slowed down as he walked toward them. Perhaps if he stayed close to the back the teacher wouldn't notice? And that, of course, was too good a wish to be true.
Astrid walked up to her right away and said, "I'm sorry, I completely forgot that the schedule changed!! I hope you can forgive us."
Us? Why was she saying "us"? Jamie awkwardly walked to the side, hoping to stay out of it. He didn't want to get in trouble, and people already thought he was shady enough.
Jamie had almost made it to the other students when the teacher called his name. "James! You are a responsible student. Why on earth didn't you realize till now that we're having class outside? It was on your schedule!" Jamie shrank into himself, shoulders hunched, as the teacher yelled.
Jamie appreciated the pretty girl defending him, but the teacher already hated him, so he'd probably just go on about him rubbing off his bad attitude on her, or something like that. He stepped in front of the girl. "No, no. I..." He paused to think of a lie. "I...wanted to get someone else in trouble because...." Did he really need a good reason? Everyone already thought he was trouble. "...because it sounded fun."
Jamie glared at her. "I'm being NICE and making sure that you don't get an F just because the teacher doesn't like you." He looked away, and turned back to the teacher, who was writing down his name on a sheet of paper.
She sighed, "But I don't usually do it, and maybe I could have gotten the teacher to pardon us," she said. "Without either of us getting in trouble."
"I doubt it," Jamie said gloomily. "He hates me." He glanced at the teacher, who was glaring daggers at him. Looking back to the girl, he smiled, or tried to. "Thanks, for trying. I'm Jamie."
She grinned, "Astrid," she said. "And at least I could have tried." she smiled slightly at the teacher and then said, "May I sit down now?"
The teacher grumbled something incoherently and gestured at the general area of the other students. Jamie took that as a sign to sit down, and hurried to the back before the teacher changed his mind.
She shrugged, "It's only fair, I was late too," she said. She was always doing things like this, and it made a lot of people nervous most of the time.
He twirled a strand of grass between his fingers. "No, really, it was very nice of you..." His face warmed, and he looked the other direction, back at the teacher.
She smiled slightly, "It's only fair," she repeated.((sorry. I gotta go. I might be back, but I dunno))
((Okay, bye!))Fair, was that really her definition of fair? All the people Jamie knew would rather harm someone than help them. Either she was being kind to him to gain his trust, or she really was that nice.
((she is naturally nice))Astrid noticed his slightly surprised expression and commented, "I don't want people to be punished for something I did as well."
Wow, you're really nice, he thought to himself, then realized with a flinch that he'd said it aloud.
Jamie sighed at that. "True," he said. He stopped speaking as the teacher started talking about Robinson Crusoe and the way the author used the language in it.
Astrid started paying attention to him as well, but she had already read Robinson Crusoe three times and was really bored.
Jamie yawned, and stared blankly at the teacher. He'd already finished Robinson Crusoe, and it wasn't even that great anyway.
Her face was very pretty up close. He shoved that thought out of his mind, and whispered back, "I've read it once."
"Nice," she said with a pretty smile. But in her mind she was slowly without realizing it starting to like this guy.
Jamie smiled, then glanced back at the teacher distractedly. "I think class is over soon....The teacher spent a while yelling at me."
Astrid nodded, class was done because the teacher had stood up and said so, so she stood up as well.
Jamie closed his eyes for a second, and realized only after the laughter that everyone else had stood up. Face pink and eyes glaring, he stood up and headed toward his next class. "What's your next class?" He asked Astrid.
"I forgot," she answered. "What's yours?" she had ignored everyone laughing at him, it was rude and mean.
