Simply, this is a book about a non-conformist high schooler who initially intrigues everyone but then is rebuffed and the boy who is smitten but torn between her and everyone else. This is a great story for kids. There were a few times it felt ethereal in a forced manner instead of organically. But this will challenge some thinking, especially about mob mentality and why kids make the choices they do around popularity.
