When August learns that his best friend, Jack, shows signs of degenerative hallucinatory disorder, he is determined to help Jack cope. Jack’s vivid and long-term visions take the form of an elaborate fantasy world layered over our own—a world ruled by the Wicker King. As Jack leads them on a quest to fulfill a dark prophecy in this alternate world, even August begins to question what is real or not.

August and Jack struggle to keep afloat as they teeter between fantasy and their own emotions. In the end, each must choose his own truth.

25% (view spoiler)[ I'm loving this so far!! The writing and the formatting of this are awesome!! I like August as a character, he's really dynamic. And the relationship with Jack is so toxic but addicting at the same time. It kind of reminds me of my friend who's super codependent. Rina is an interesting choice for Jack to get August a girlfriend. I don't think it's going to work out how Jack thinks it will tho. (hide spoiler)]

41% (view spoiler)[ I'm having such a hard time figuring out if August is gay or bi?? There's definitely a lot of sexual tension between Jack and August but I don't really understand it yet? But wow do I enjoy it. Also that scene with Gordie was crazy raw. I don't think I've ever read such a short yet sensual sex scene like that before. I'm really fascinated by the fantasy world, I have a feeling Jack has to save it from the other King creature since he is The Wicker King. (hide spoiler)]

73% (view spoiler)[ THIS BOOK IS SO FUCKING ADDICTING I SWEAR. Okay I think it was kind of funny that since Jack and August found the Rapturous Blue that farmer found a Bismuth vein and made like $700,000. Also how is this rock thing supposed to help?

And Jack is clearly getting worse and so is August, I'm worried for my boys. I wasn't surprised when Rina and August hooked it. It actually felt kind of right, but then so do Jack and August. I loved everything Rina was trying to tell August, she can obviously see that August means everything to Jack. (hide spoiler)]

Finished!! (view spoiler)[ Holy crap I can't believe Jack had a brain tumor! I'm really glad he got it taken care of before it was too late. I never even suspected an underlying medical condition to his fantasies. Also, I'm really glad Dr Cho realized that there was more to August and Jack's relationship. It was refreshing to see her talk about what codependency was. JACK AND AUGUST ARE FINALLY GOING TO BE TOGETHER IM SO HAPPY!! The author's note at the end was so touching, I love this author and I hope she writes more. (hide spoiler)]

But I'm definitely got a vibe that this could be a more than friends kind of thing pretty early on - could just be me. Either way I love this book and them. Also, their sass makes everything better.
