Elvenn is our shelf picker for the month of May and she has chosen Keepers as the shelf for the month. It looks like there are a lot of interesting books on the list!

Have fun picking out what you are going to read, I can't wait to see everyone's lists.

I took a cursory look at the list and it seems that I have read a lot of books that people have shelved as Keepers. Unfortunately, all of the books on the first two pages that I have and would probably read are BRICKS. Hmm. I'll keep looking, but for now I will go with:

The Fault in Our Stars
Dragonfly in Amber
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

or I might read Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal as a number of people have recommended it to me.

Marina (sonnenbarke) | 1513 comments If I can get my hands on it, I will read Leaves of Grass. My paper copy is at my parents', though, and I don't know whether I'll be able to get it before the end of May. If not, I will think about something else...

My favorite book of poems for sure!

I loved these books. Didn't like the movies, though, but I thought the books were very Romeo and Juliet.

Great list Jamie. Some of my favorites on there. I am a Mark Twain fanatic, and Rebecca is one of my all time faves. To Kill a Mockingbird is timeless, Neverwhere is my favorite Gaiman to date (I wish he would write a sequel)., and my son has read The Hitchiker's Guide so many times his copy fell apart.

I have had that one on my TBR forever. I even own a hardback copy, but have never gotten to it.

It has been on my TBR for awhile and got a paperback copy when I went to a book swap at the library.

I think Romeo and Juliet was one of the classics that inspired the saga... Also Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights among others...?

I read the books around 10 years ago and I vaguely remember liking Twilight (#1) and Eclipse (#3), feeling New Moon (#2) was one frustrating cliffhanger and disliking Breaking Dawn (#4), but mostly because I read it after finishing two older books that I felt had touched similar themes in a more interesting way...

Tamara | 10 comments I'll read Moon Called, it's been on my to read shelf for awhile.

You are right about the influences. I can see parts of all of those in the books. And I agree about how the books played out, too. I thought Twilight was the best, followed by Eclipse. New Moon was good, but not great, and I didn't really care for Breaking Dawn. For one thing, I thought it was way too long.

Rosemary | 952 comments I have these from the list:

These Old Shades
The Masqueraders
Guards! Guards!
Neuromancer
Seven Up

I will probably start with one of the Georgette Heyers.

I haven't read a Georgette Heyer in quite a while. She used to be a favorite of both my Mom and I

message 21: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 952 comments I don't know if I've ever read a Georgette Heyer. I got these two on my Kindle to try.

And thanks for the Guards! Guards! recommendation, Tamara! I haven't read much Discworld, maybe 5 or so, but I've enjoyed Mort and Going Postal best so far. Good to know this is likely to be up there with them!

Elvenn | 746 comments I think I'll try to read one (or more, hopefully!) of these:

The Beautiful Mystery (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, #8) by Louise Penny Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, #5) by Charlaine Harris Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish (Hitchhiker's Guide, #4) by Douglas Adams Summer Knight (The Dresden Files, #4) by Jim Butcher Speaker for the Dead (Ender's Saga, #2) by Orson Scott Card Dexter in the Dark (Dexter, #3) by Jeff Lindsay Eaters of the Dead by Michael Crichton

But these seem really interesting too:

The Secret History by Donna Tartt A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2) by Sarah J. Maas Rivers of London (Peter Grant, #1) by Ben Aaronovitch The Humans by Matt Haig The Invention of Solitude by Paul Auster 2001 A Space Odyssey (Space Odyssey, #1) by Arthur C. Clarke The Caves of Steel (Robot, #1) by Isaac Asimov The October Country by Ray Bradbury Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1) by Kendare Blake My Ántonia by Willa Cather

The Help
The Fault in Our Stars
The Stand

message 24: by Tyra (new)

Tyra I'm deciding between reading Kindred or Fahrenheit 451. If I have time I'll read both

Christina (cmb1987) | 161 comments Soooooo. I failed last month. I started my book The Shining but did not finish it (something that had nothing to do with me house sitting in a strange house and not wanting to read alone at night....). It also happens to be on this month so I'm just gonna keep going with that one and finish what I started.

I've been away for over a month, and am SO far behind ... It's time to choose for June already! So for May, I'm going to count Lirael, which I started early in the month and have just been lucky enough to find on the "Keepers" shelf. Whew!
