Did you know that The Secret Garden is Stafford Arima's Theatre Calgary directorial debut? The show is full of fantastic singing, seamless choreography and a bit of magic. For tickets, please visit out website at:
For this week's discussion, let's discuss Colin Craven. Mary has now met where the cries originate, and has discovered she has a cousin. A spoiled, 'sick', and angry child who Mary is able to get through to and the two become friends.
Many of you may already have known the story, but what did you think the crying was beforehand? What was your initial reaction to Colin?
The author describes Mary throughout the beginning chapters in such an ugly way, but readers still can't hate her. In fact they adore her. The author chose not describe Colin so much as illustrate his actions. Did you feel differently about him compared to Mary?
Colin has been hidden away with very little human interaction and told that he is sick. If he was able to grow up "normally" how do you think he would have been different? What are the negatives to him being basically confined to a bed? What do you think the positives (if any) were?
