In the book Glass, by Ellen Hopkins, Kristina shows us what it’s like to let your life spiral out of control and how downhill your life can go from one mistake. Glass is the sequel to the book I recently finished, Crank. Glass goes deeper into Kristina’s addiction and we get to experience all the horrible things she goes through as a drug addict, teenage mom.
Now with a new boyfriend, Kristina has much easier access to what she loves so much, the monster. While Kristina is supposed to be living at home with her new born baby to take care of, she’s instead living with her boyfriend who is a complete loser and treats her horribly. This new boyfriend of hers is a terrible influence on her and now her life is back to being filled with nothing but sex and drugs.
Being a teenage mom must be hard, but for Kristina, she doesn’t even try. She is such an irresponsible mother that her own mother took her baby away from her. Kristina knew nothing about being a mother and only thought about herself. As her family was home taking care of her child, she was too busy getting high and selling drugs for the Mexican Mafia. Kristina eventually gets to her breaking point and she is left with nothing. She now starts to commit crimes and even steals money from her own mother.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I started it right after I finished Crank because I was itching to find out what Kristina ended up doing with her life. This book really gives you a feel of how drugs can really ruin a person and everything around them. The last couple of pages were my favorite in the book because Kristina finally got what was coming for her. Although I feel sorry for Kristina, she did this all to herself and now she has to pay the consequences and maybe now she will learn her lesson.
