What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I believe this was a YA book about 3-5 years ago. The heroine is home from school during winter break (?). The mysterious neighbor across the street ends up teaching her self-defense after her ex-boyfriend tries to attack her. They hang out a lot at his place. I think he's older and works as a bouncer. This is book one of two. It ends (view spoiler)[ with him having to run and leaving her behind. I think he completely cleans his house out for her to find he's gone and not understand what happened or who he was. She ends up getting kidnapped by the people after him. I think the 2nd book is where he comes for her and she maybe gives up her family for him?? I keep thinking he was a hitman and grew up all over the place with his father who also might have been a hired killer? (hide spoiler)]
