Although I'm not sure if it's Tom Wolfe who wrote Electric Kool Aid Acid Test or if it's the Thomas Wolfe (completely different author) who wrote Look Homeward, Angel. They do seem like weird choices for the former.

FYI This is Tom Wolfe, author of Electric Kool Aid. In the collection "Top 10", he also makes an impassioned argument for Studs Lonigan as a more unusual choice.
