Hello everyone! I hope you're all excited to start your AROUND THE WORLD books for May!

This is a thread for you all to link to your reviews. Here we can keep up with each other and see how we felt about our books for the month!

At the end of the month I will be linking back to everyone's reviews on a big master post on my blog so don't forget to link it here, otherwise I won't be able to find it! I'll be posting the May review post on June 7th.

Here's my short review of Redemption in Indigo by Karen Lord. I loved it!

Unfortunately, I've put this month's book (Kin) down as a DNF, I will post my review as to why later on.

However, I am currently reading Give It Back by Danielle Esplin, who is from South Africa, so I can use that as my book this month instead!

Just finished a wonderful novel, My Brilliant Friend, by Elena Ferrante. It's set in Naples, part of a series. It's a lovely portrait of growing up poor, aiming for more.

I read Zoo City for this month. It was fun and I will try something else by this new to me author.

I picked an author from South Korea for this months theme - The Good Son: The bestselling Korean thriller of the year

I finished reading The Diary of a Young Girl today. Man, was the ending hard to manage. Details in my blog review here, but the TL;DR version is it's really hard to read about someone being optimistic about their future when you know how it ends.


Definitely worth a read. I'm very glad I (finally) read this book.

I've read Fredrik Backman's Us Against You (sequel to Beartown) and it was absolutely brilliant! Here's my review !

Highly recommend this series to everyone, and I think I even saw someone was reading Beartown, so I hope they loved it!

I read Paper Princess by Erin Watt and it is now one of my favorites. I would recommended if you like New Adult romances and like series.

I didn't know what to expect from this book but I did end up falling in love with this book and it is now one of my favorites. I loved all of the characters. This was the first time I've ever read a New Adult romance book and I think I may have to read more. This book made me so happy and I was able to fly through it. I can't stop thinking about this book. The ending really hit me and I can't wait to see what happens next in this series.

For my May book I read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

I loved this book from beginning to end. The best and most interesting thing about this book was that it was from the perspective of Death. It was devastatingly, beautiful and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I gave it 5 stars.

Murad grew up in a very close knit village in northern Iraq called Kocho united by religion known as Yazidism. This area of the world is home to Ottomans, Sunnis, Kurds, non Sunni Muslims, and even occupying Americans. The issue is ISIS. ISIS has participated in an ethnic cleansing in this part of the country. They believe the Yazidi people are devil worshipers. Whole populations of men have been down and women have been sold into the slave trade beaten and raped until they die or escape. Murad lived to tell her tale. She is now an activist.
I have never read anything so harrowing in my life. I never watch tv or read the news. It's one of those things that I knew "bad things happen", but I had no idea it was like this anywhere in the world. I am ashamed of myself. The cruelty is unforgivable, the suffering unimaginable.
Murad is brutally honest throughout her book. She lays her heart on the page. I cannot fathom that she held anything back. Her fear is palpable.
I pray that Murad finds peace and solace. I'm sure the healing process is slow. I hope writing this book was cathartic.

I read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. This book will definitely pull at your heartstrings. It took me over halfway through the book to really be sucked in but I’m still not 100% sure of my feelings on it so my full review probably want be up for a while.

I read Beartown and thought it was amazing. I gave it 5 stars! It's by a Swedish author and is set in a hockey town in contemporary Sweden. Once I figure out how to link my review I'll update this post.

I read The Track of Sand by Andrea Camilleri an Italian author. It was an enjoyable easy read crime story. There is a little bit of a subplot that I missed as I haven't read any of his previous books.

In May I read Ripley Under Ground by Patricia Highsmith. The story takes you from France to London, as well as Greece and Mexico. I'm really enjoying the Ripley books and PH becoming a favourite of mine but I still have so many of her books to read!
