Jean stood in the centre of the dorm area, she was supervising and making sure that everyone was getting ready and that they had everything they needed. She herself was excited to go out with everyone for a trip so she didn't mind helping out, in fact, she had packed a day in advance. She deftly dodged younger students who were running back and forth excitedly. Every now and then she had to use her telekinesis to stop them from knocking things over or dropping stuff onto the floor.
wanda maximoff was draggin her feet across the red carpet in the center of the hallway, making her way back to her room. hoping to dodge jean grey her supervisor, the mutant rapidly scurried along behind some passing students, evading the x-men's emerald eyes. her own shone with worry as she raced to her room. compared to pietro, wanda was rather slow but her cunning nature made up for it when she had verbal spars with her kin. wanda was clad on this day, in a black caged crop top and ripped tight grey jeans. the xavier academy didn't have a strict dresscode but the x-men had tried relentlessly to have wanda wear more appropriate outfits seeing as she was showing off a lot of skin. sighing, the crimson haired female slipped her fingers around the knob, turning it. she pushed on the door, entering her room.

With most other teachers Wanda likely could have gotten away with sneaking through, she was clever and careful, but Jean was not one to be so easily tricked. The others had to use their eyes and ears, but she had the benefit of seeing the student's thoughts as they passed through and as such she noticed Wanda just as she was closing the door. She sighed, stopping it telekinetically just before it could close the rest of the way. Jean walked over, wondering why Wanda was so intent on getting by unnoticed. She technically could just probe her mind, but she preferred to speak to others. Using her telepathy seemed too invasive in many cases.
Instead of opening the door jean just stood outside. "Wanda, are you alright in there?" She asked a note of concern in her voice. She wanted to check in before traipsing into the room like she owned the place. Seeing as Wanda snuck through she was also trying to be a bit more approachable in case there was a reason she felt inclined to sneak past.
the maroon haired mutant paused as she approached her bed, jean's voice entering the room despite her residing behind the mahogany door. wanda stood there, paused, shoulders tense, neck tucked between her shoulders with her arms gripping her elbows. swallowing before speaking, wanda called out weakly, "i'm fine."
ever since the academy had been attacked, wanda's powers were coursing through her veins with an unpresidented fury. her magic seemed to lace the air around her. if she trusted xavier she would have gone to him and been told that her genetic powers were just anticipating since the terrible night, but she refused to seek counsil and had to deal with it on her own. as she reached out for the bed, a strand of red energy surged past her spread fingers, weaving in and out of her grasp as though ready to be weilded at a moments notice.
a sudden shout from outside caused her magic to react, striking out in any direction. an empty canvas that laid on her bed was targeted and victim to her unnatural, dangerous and uncontrolled powers. her eyes turned a dark shade of red, nearly glowing. as though she was possessed she picked up a pencil and began drawing, the magic guiding the strokes across the brittle surface. once the whole canvas was filled with the lead, an image appeared. a mysterious girl holding her face, gazing out at wanda as though warning the girl. wanda studied her mystical work, unncertain where her artistic side had appeared from. at the academy the mutant had been attending art classes but never managed to make such great work.
"jean?" she asked, worry laced in her tone as she looked at the canvas in fear. before she could say more or usher the professor into her room, the magic seemed from her body once more. this time the magic reached for the pencil, infusing it with a deep red color. she began drawing again and produced another haunting image. wanda stood there shaking as the magic receeded back to her body, leaving her feeling helpless and scared. the artwork stared back at her.![]()

Jean stayed at the door a for a few moments after Wanda had said she was fine, even had it not been made clear in her tone Jean had empathic abilities and could feel that something was off. It made Jean herself feel somewhat anxious like something was looming over her shoulder. The feeling was all too familiar to the telepath, it was akin to a fear, a fear not of something else, but of oneself, of one's own potential. Before the academy Jean had no control of her powers, she knew how it felt to be worried about the danger of her own powers, it was scary and she wasn't going to let someone go through that if she could help them.
Jean could see a faint crimson glow through the crack in the door, but wouldn't step in unless Wanda asked for her help, there was still a chance she was using her powers of her own accord. She listened closely but was snapped out of her concentration as a student accidentally dropped glass. The student leapt when it hit the ground attempting to get away from the shards which Jean quickly gathered telekinetically to avoid anyone getting hurt. She placed them on a table and briskly ushered the students to continue getting ready, but as she did so she heard Wanda call her name. She gave a final gesture to the students with a strained smile before whirling around to face the door.
As she faced the door, she was once again hit by the wave of emotions, but they now felt much greater, far more dire. Jean took a moment to ready herself for whatever was to come and then slowly swung open the mahogany door as to not surprise Wanda in her seemingly afraid state. When she entered she caught a glimpse of the art pieces, both uncharacteristically ominous, nothing she could imagine being used in class despite the clear detail in them. Instead of questioning the pictures she looked directly to Wanda.
She was shaking, scared, her eyes seemingly glued to the art. Jean approached quietly and placed a hand on Wanda's shoulder. "Wanda... Calm down, you'll be alright." Jean reassured her. She knew how awful it was to be afraid in such a way, she wanted to help as best she could, but to help she needed Wanda to calm down before she could figure out what was going on.
wanda's breathe hitched when the professor's slim fingers curled around her shoulder, firm but not comforting. as though freightened by the simple gesture, heat shot through wanda's body, reaching to the tips of her fingers which shook gently down to her toes. the magical mutant's gaze wavered between the pieces of art. she recognized the canvas dominated in red strokes as being herself but had never seen such power around her before. shifting her gaze back to the purple canvas, wanda leaned forward against jean's touch, peering at the detail with a narrowed emerald eyes.
her gaze trailed the thin yet lighter strokes of purple that possessed the space between the mysterious girl's darker brows. she possessed a odd lilac skin tone with dark purple hair. her eyes were a misty grey purple amethyst. it seemed like some facial marking that the girl possessed that was observed most by wanda. she reached out with a seemingly steady hand, her fingers stretched forward. the canvas was rough yet smooth.
she trailed the tip of her index finger down the veins of the girls arms then to the other hand, working her way up to the object that was attached to the back of her suit. the girl in the canvas was beautiful, breathe taking almost. wanda could scarely believe she had produced such work.
tearing her gaze away from the canvas' wanda caught a glimpse of concern in jean grey's eyes. it didn't look like the professor knew what was happening or knew what to do about it. wanda's stomach dropped. the red strands of magic had disappeared, leaving no trace that they were ever once here nor suggested they made the works of art.

Jean neatly tucked a lock of scarlet hair behind her ear, verdant harlequin eyes flickering between the two art pieces and the young mutant, attempting to piece together the connection. The deep reds and intricate designs in the scarlet light gave away that one was Wanda. The other, however, was far different. It was made with fine strokes of violet and amethyst, an extremely detailed piece depicting a stunning young woman. She didn't recognise whoever it was, they were unfamiliar, unique, unlike any other mutant Jean had ever seen.
She wasn't positive how to react, she was used to destructive outbursts of power, moments in which students couldn't control their mutations and were left afraid, but it wasn't common for a student's powers to produce haunting artistry. The nature of Wanda's powers was so unique that it wasn't exactly possible to properly explain what had happened. Jean stayed quiet while Wanda reached out to the canvases, she didn't have much to say so she avoided empty words until she could produce a theory as to what had happened.
As she thought she knew there was one thing she could do which was guarantee privacy. She used her telepathy to block out the entrance to the room from the view of all the students that way none would enter. She glanced toward the sullen mutant with a sombre gaze and spoke, "Wanda, your powers are different from most mutants at the academy, they are useful, but with all great powers there comes a... Danger." Jean told her softly, offering a slight squeeze on the shoulder to further assure her that she was there to help.
"When I first came to the academy Xavier had to limit my powers because I lacked the ability to control them. I had created 'poltergeists' that would harm people or cause trouble and I could hear everyone's thoughts no matter how hard I tried to block them out. People thought I was a freak because I had to stay locked in the house otherwise people would get hurt. Your powers are more unpredictable by nature. I can't necessarily explain why they'll do what they'll do, but I can assure you that it happens to many mutants. You need to be careful, but not afraid. These could mean something, yes, but they could also just be your powers acting upon some subconscious whim, there is no need to stress yourself until we know. Professor Xavier could help you, he understands mutations far better than anyone else I know, we can go see him if you'd like." She explained, doing her best to reassure Wanda that nothing was wrong, that what she was experiencing as no different than what anyone else was experiencing.
Jean didn't know of the young mutants aversion to her beloved professor and thus saw no reason not to go see him. Jean may not have known what to do, but if anyone would, she was near certain it would be him. She tilted her head to the side, letting her crimson hair fall from her shoulders as she looked a little closer at the paintings. She wanted to commit them to memory in case anything like this happened again. Something about them felt off, but they were merely pictures and so Jean shrugged it off assuming them to be no more than well-made canvas art and a simple case of being a tad hungry.
wanda's mind was so wrapped up and trapped in fear that the younger mutant barley registered a word that her professor spoke. maybe if you knew what i saw, you'd understand. wanda thought silently, the dangerous thought crossing her mind. she studied jean quietly, her emerald gaze gliding across the woman's fair skin. jean grey looked so healthy.
the maximoff child dare not speak so bluntly to her professor but couldn't help it with how calm jean appeared. "no," she barked, removing jean's hand from her shoulder swiftly. "you don't understand!" glossy tears welled at the corners of her eyes, "i'm dangerous - as are you." she gestured frantically towards jean's whole body, suggesting that the professor was just as dangerous as the mutant who was panicking.
"i just," she dropped her voice low, "i just want to get out of here." the confession lingered on her tongue as she contemplated the places a mutant like her could go and hide, and further more be safe. there were very few.

Jean hastily withdrew her hand when Wanda had so abruptly pushed it aside. She was stunned by the younger mutant's behaviour it wasn't common a student lashed out in such a way, though Wanda was admittedly a unique case, her powers were far greater than those of most others and thus stresses regarding them were likely to be just as vast. Jean did her best to justify Wanda's reaction, she was young, stressed, scared, uncomfortable and worried, of course, she'd have a few breakdowns.
It wasn't until the younger mutant referred to Jean herself as dangerous. Jean had managed to contain her powers for the most part and as much as she so fervently wished that her powers were under complete control. Her lips turned downwards at the corners, upset by the reminder that she would never be fully safe, that a power that could kill many innocent people rested within her and that one wrong choice could unleash it. She tried not to think of it considering her powers often activated due to emotion so ignoring that fact tended to keep it at bay.
Jean was undoubtedly taken aback, most people didn't ever mention her powers in such a manner, in a way it was a taste of cruel reality. It sparked something, a whim, but she felt that it was necessary. After Wanda's few words it was like the floodgates had opened. The stress and struggles were just let loose. "You want to get out of here? I can help you." She began, now acting on sheer impulse. "The students are going on a trip so it won't be unusual for us not to be here. There are a few remote islands that could be safe. You'll need me otherwise any competent psychic could find you, I'll be able to keep us out of the reach of any telepath, even Xavier if need be so don't try to get smart and leave me behind." She added on, making sure that Wanda wouldn't leave all on her own.
Jean knew that she'd probably regret this later on, but she wanted to see what would happen, she couldn't help but be curious as to if she could contain herself - if she could contain the Phoenix. She loved the academy, but if she could keep everyone safe until she could fully control the Phoenix maybe she could help out more than she could at that point in time. This way Wanda wouldn't be alone either, Jean could be sure she wasn't just letting her journey off to her death.
wanda felt her options expanding. what felt like a dark black hole was spreading out, revealing an ocean to which wanda had the power to swim and float. she was safe. shifting her emerald gaze to the older mutant, sacrlet witch regarded jean grey's suggestion with as much enthusiasm as she could muster. while a scarlet smile did not grace her tight lips, her expression softened. "i guess it's better than anywhere else," she said.
turning to her bed, wanda began to pack. she selected the closest items to her and stuffed them violently into her suitcase. she whirled around, "are you gonna help me or not?" she asked, her voice desperate for the most rapid course of action to be taken without delay.

Jean's Harlequin eyes flittered around the room, taking in each individual thing, utterly disregarding what Wanda had said. She was making sure she knew what to take before acting. In a mere moment, several objects too to the air, floating around each being neatly and compactly packed. Telekinesis was particularly useful for small tasks like this, it made it easy to multitask. Jean wasn't going to waste time doing things by hand, she was too enthralled by the opportunity to use her powers and swiftly packed everything up telekinetically.
"I think that should do." She stated cheerfully, dusting off her hands as though she had actually performed some form of physical labour. "I have to grab my own things, I'll have to head over to my room, meet me outside the academy shortly, don't act any different than usual." She instructed carefully as she headed toward the door. She stopped for a moment before stepping out. "I believe Scott has a motorcycle we can take to get us away from here, I'll tell him I'm borrowing it, we can book plane tickets once we're far enough and then we'll have to rent a car or take public transit to get to the plane station, preferably under other names..." She added on, preparing Wanda for what was to come.
(Should we move it to somewhere else after your post? Outside the academy or wherever there first stop along the way is?)
wanda stood there quietly, soaking in the depth of what their journey would bring. one thing struck her the most, leaving. xavier academy was her home. this was where she was learning to control her powers, the people she loved and trusted were here. vision was here too.
before wanda could protest however, jean had left the room. the crimson haired female sat back on the bed, barley sparing a glance of her emerald gaze to concern the packed bed. the telekinetic was getting prepared. "i'd prefer to ride," she said before getting up and leaving the room.
visiting the stable was only a short walk away from her room. approaching the manicured pasture, wanda peered over the wooden fence, noting how the horses were inside. within a few minutes, wanda had groomed, saddled and packed a large white draft. the horse dragged it's hooves against the ground, impatient and ready to go. wanda chuckled, knowing she had something in common with the great beast. "i know," she said, soothingly.

Jean had retreated to her room where she quickly ran through what she'd need. Clothes, they could buy more on the trip, but she'd prefer to have some with her just to be safe. She'd need money and lots of it so she took what cash she had and was going to withdraw the rest from the bank along the way. She was going to need toiletries to stay clean and then on top of that she packed a couple of little sentimental trinkets. She put everything into bags that could be brought along on the vehicle and went down to where she knew the motorcycle would be.
Jean found it rather quickly, she borrowed vehicles rather often to go for drives on the open road. She enjoyed the thrill of speed and the overwhelming sense of freedom that it gave her. She carefully put each bag onto the bike, fastening them down tightly to ensure she didn't lose them on the road. She popped the kickstand and walked it out to where she planned to meet Wanda, the helmet hanging on the handlebars of the bike.
When she apporached she smiled upon seeing the horse. Jean simply adored animals, they had a unique emotional clarity that people didn't, they acted as they felt which for an empath made life much easier. "I see you've found a friend!" She called out to Wanda, a smile gracing her face. It was interesting to see Wanda wanted to ride a horse instead of any sort of vehicle, such a decision was telling of her personality. "Are you all ready to go?" Jean asked her inquisitively. She didn't want to leave unprepared for the journey ahead.
the bags were ready and secured. nestled in the vehicle jean presented herself as such, prepared. the pair shared a long moment. wanda smiled, "yes i am ready." she stole one last glance back at xavier academy. the memory of her first day here rushed back, nearly overwhelming her. the horse snorted, stealing her attention which was the best thing to keep her powers from seeping out. without waiting for jean, wanda pressed her heels into the steed whom bounded forward, breaking into a canter his long strides conquering the land.
wanda's gaze whipped back and a smile grew on her face, "catch me if you can jean!" she hollered her red hair flowing behind her. she urged her steed into a steady gallop which the horse was happy to do. standing in the stirrups, wanda enjoyed the wind that whistled through her ear and the sharp pinch of the cold fondeling her cheeks. nothing could beat the speed of a horse like this one.

Jean's hopes were that maybe she'd be able to tame the cosmic entity within her and one day return to the academy, she didn't reminisce forlornly, she had no goodbyes to say, for her, it was more of a see you soon. She had a smile on her face but was shaken to attention when her ears were met with the sound of hooves striking the ground. Jean's smile widened, she tossed back her scarlet hair and put her helmet on quickly, before hopping onto the bike and revving the engine.
The sound of the vehicle's engine roaring to life filled her with excitement and anticipation. Whatever inhibitions she had previously had were tossed to the wind for her mind was overtaken by the prospects of the future. the vehicle lurched forward before firing into motion, quickly gathering speed. All things considered, catching up was quite the challenge, but eventually Jean was able to keep close proximity to Wanda. Her helmet kept the wind off her face, which somewhat bothered Jean, but, when your head is potentially as dangerous a weapon as a highspeed missile you learn to keep it protected at all costs.
"Watch out for people," Jean warned, keeping her eyes on the road ahead, her voice raised so that she could be heard of over the galloping and her engine. "since we're still close to the academy, I'm psychically blocking us from the views of other people, that way we won't be given away right of the bat. They won't see you so it's your job to avoid trampling them." She explained trying to be as calm as she could be in spite of the fact that she was as excited as could be by being able to really be free for a while, allowed to just let go. Jean waited for a beat before speaking again, "Isn't this quite the adventure? Who knows where we'll end up!" Jean remarked loudly with fascination.
the fear that had grasped onto the weak and scared mutant were whipped away by the sharp breeze that swept around her body, stealing the stress. wanda's smile grew wide, ear to ear, nearly. her cheeks were a gentle scarlet. beside her, jean was shouting to her. "ok!" wanda replied with a laugh, embracing the recklessness of their voyage but considering the danger in it too. the horse was free beneath wanda, his hooves pounding away from the academy.
the emerald forest around them whisked away, rapidly fading out of view as the countryside swallowed the open golden plains. glancing around, wanda breathed in the scent. nature was a drug she couldn't resist. the motorcycle rumbled beside her, in a steady pace with her steed.
"i promise not to trample anyone jean!" wanda shouted with joy over the roar of the vehicle. she didn't even bother to consider how dangerous she and the professor were to the real world. one with a cosmic entity, the other with unchecked and possiblly unlimited magical possibilities. xavier would have sent the x-force after them if not for jean's mental block.

((I'm so sorry I took so long to get back to you, my little brother left his window open and let a tonne of bugs into his bedroom and I've been working on systematically eliminating them over the past couple days and it has been surprisingly time-consuming.
In any case, before I do post, do we want to rp their whole journey or do we want to skip over to their next destination where they plan the rest of their trip?))
