YA LGBT Books discussion

The world’s largest library, the Library of Congress, will celebrate Pride month by hosting discussions with André Aciman and Becky Albertalli, two best-selling writers whose works exploring LGBT lives have recently been adapted for the big screen: the critically acclaimed novel Call Me By Your Name and the major studio release Love, Simon, respectively.

Thursday June 7th - Albertalli will chat about the impact of her young adult novel Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda that won her an American Library Association’s William C. Morris Award and was subsequently adapted to film as Love, Simon. The story centers on Simon Spier, a gay teenager who is trying to prevent a blackmailer from outing him to his entire school, while also trying to identify an anonymous classmate with whom he has fallen for online. I love that it's a positive book (and movie) about a gay teen being celebrated - no deep dark angst and sad endings.
