Principle #4: Comic Impact.

Even in a serious fight, sometimes funny things happen - which is great for action. You want the quips, and one-liners.

Thoughts?

I am against humour in a fight scene. You are trying to generate tension and convey the concept that people are getting hurt. After it is all over, you can have a character make a quip, but only to show character, and usually this is not a very nice part of character.

I think it can work well, especially prior to battle - humour of a gallows or dark sort.

If you throw humor into an actual fight, it will set a different feel for what is happening, which may or may not work with the overall narrative and character style.
