Except this is book 26, not book 1...

O.o are there plans for discworld brs now? Why book 26?

You can count me in as well if a discworld BR is planned from the start.

Book 26 because both Silvana and I need to to complete the Death sub series. I have a whole bunch I need to read and this series is highly rereadable.

Terry Pratchett has such a way with words. This is from page 2 so not a spoiler:

For something to exist, it has to be observed.

For something to exist, it has to have a position in time and space.

And this explains why nine-tenths of the mass of the universe is unaccounted for.

I'm reading a US mass market paperback and the story is 357 pages.

As with most Discworld there is some philosophizing under all the comedy. I love this.

On a personal level this is a timely (haha, see what I did there?) read. The part where Death is telling Susan about how humans tend to hang on to old grudges by "within their heads many humans spend a lot of time in the middle of wars that happened centuries ago" hit close to home. Earlier this week my mom called to rant about something that happened 20+ years ago that, while frustrating when it happened, is so past any relevancy that I can't believe she still won't let it go. Ahh, humans. (hide spoiler)]

Just started as well. Indeed the first page is already so hilarious. Oh my. I miss Pratchett.

Narilka, I do love that statement about us humans :)

Pratchett had this way of inserting great philosophy into such hilarious narratives. But then he could be downright silly. I enjoyed the silliness of the (view spoiler)[baby Abbot. (hide spoiler)]

Glad this is (view spoiler)[a Susan book too. Her dad is boring. Susan and her pupils are always delightful to read. I think she will meet Jeremy and fall in love etc etc. (hide spoiler)] Oh I hope it would not be that cliched.

Oh my yes. It's amazing how deep he can go and yet keep it silly too. It's an amazing skill.

The entire subversion of sooooo many martial arts movie tropes through the Lu Tze and Lobsang conversations is extremely enjoyable.

Any bets on who Susan meets? Jeremy or Lobsang?

I wonder what kind of looks I'd get if I tried to carry around a broom LOL

(view spoiler)[That was a pretty complicated story for a Discworld book. I'm highly impressed with how well a three story lines came together. I truly did not see the Lobsang/Jeremy thing coming.

Just finished. I have to say I found the plot lines quite jumbled in my mind especially when it comes to the monks. The twist and horsemen were great, though.
